Dragon's Corner, Featured Stories, Team FYN Sports

Yesterday afternoon, the JV Dragons baseball team hosted the JV Rebels of Fannin at Dragons Field. Coming into the game, the JV Dragons had an unblemished record of 5-0 looking to improve to 6-0. Isaiah Payne took the mound for the JV Dragons and worked around some trouble to send the game to the bottom of the first. Dillon Champion got the day started for the Dragons with a single and later scored as the Dragons pushed across two runs in the first to take the lead, 2-0. Fannin got two back in the top of the 2nd to tie things back up at 2 a piece.

Pickens had a threat going in the bottom of the 2nd, but left the runners stranded at first and third as we went to the 3rd still tied at 2. The Rebels took the lead in the top of the 3rd after plating 6 runs to grab a 8-2 lead. The bottom of the inning saw the Dragons get a run back but still trailed 8-3 after three. Fannin got that run back in the top of the 4th to lead it 9-3 going to the bottom of the inning.

Pickens held a walk-a-thon in the bottom of the 4th as they batted around in the half inning and scored 11 runs on just 3 hits to reclaim the lead over the Rebels 14-9 going to the 5th inning. A scoring change gave Fannin another run as they stranded two runners in the top of the 5th with the Dragons leading 14-10. Yes that’s 14-10 and no the football teams weren’t playing.

After a leadoff walk drawn by Austin Massey and a double by William Young, Slade Hillhouse hit a 3-run inside the park home run to stretch the lead to 17-10. Pickens then tacked on another run in the inning to make 18-10 which would turn out to be the final score.

Dillon Champion went 1-1 with a run scored

Corey Herman went 2-2 with a double, a single, and 3 runs scored

William Young went 1-2 with a double, two walks, and 3 runs scored

With the win, the JV Dragons improve to 6-0 on the season. Tomorrow afternoon, their Varsity teammates will try to get back on the winning track after losing a tough one last night on the road to Union 7-6. The Varsity Dragons will host Murray County tomorrow at 5:30 at Dragons Field.
