Nettes move to 2-0 in 6-AAA play

Jasper, Ga — After a week off, the Pickens Dragonettes, were back on the floor on Tuesday, December 16th as they took on the Lumpkin Lady Indians in 6-AAA action. Coming into the game, the Nettes, were 4-2 and 1-0 in region play. The Lady Indians, were 6-2 and 0-1 in region play. Using a balanced attack on offense and a tough defense, the Nettes, came away with a 55-41 win.

 

The Nettes, would get things started in the first quarter as Bree Jewell came off a screen and found Skyler Lathem open underneath the basket for a layup to make it 2-0. The Lady Indians would counter as Alayna Lindley, Maddie Lee, and Reagan Richardson, combined to go on an 8-0 run to take the lead. The Nettes, would then go on an 8-0 run of their own as Ellison Steinhauer hit a jumper, and Caleigh Hoffard, would hit back to back threes.

A basket by Lee, would tie things up at 10. A second layup by Lathem, would make it 12-10 Nettes. Reagan Ludington, would split a pair of free throws to end the first quarter as the Nettes led the Lady Indians, 13-10 heading to the second quarter.

 

A 6-0 run by Steinhauer and Ludington to start the second quarter, would push the Nettes lead to 19-10. After a timeout by the Lady Indians, they would go inside to Richardson for a layup to make it 19-12. A three by Ludington, would make it 22-12. Lindley, would cut the lead to 8 after a bucket. Ludington, would then make her third field goal of the quarter to once again make it a ten point game.

After a basket by Emerson Reese, a late three by Tania Rivera, would give the Nettes a 27-16 lead heading into the break.

 

Richardson, would get the scoring started in the third quarter to cut the lead to 9. Jewell, would get into the score book with a bucket to make it 29-18. After a basket by Anna Kate Davis, Rivera and Jewell, would make back to back buckets to give the Nettes a 33-20 lead. A 5-0 run by Lee and Richardson, would cut the lead down to 8. Steinhauer, would then be fouled on a three point attempt. She would hit all three free throws to make it 36-25.

Darbi Stanley, would then hit a three to give the Nettes a 14 point lead. Lathem and Steinhauer, would then make back to back layups to stretch the lead out to 18. Reese, would end the run with a basket to make it 43-27. Hoffard, would hit her third three of the game to end the third quarter scoring as the Nettes took a 46-27 lead into the fourth.

 

Lee and Richardson, would go on a combined 7-0 run to begin the fourth quarter to cut the lead down to 46-34. A three by Jewell, would put an end to the run and make it 49-34. After Richardson split a pair of free throws, Ludington, would hit both of her free throw attempts, and follow that up with a layup to make it 53-35. A pair of free throws by Lee, and a layup by Lindley, would make it 53-39.

After a pair of free throws by Steinhauer, Lindley, would get a late bucket to go as the Nettes would defeat the Lady Indians, 55-41.

The Nettes, will be on the road on Friday, December 19th and Saturday, December 20th as they head to Pope High School where they will take part in the Hounds Holiday Hoops Classic. The Nettes, will take on the host school, the Pope Lady Greyhounds. Tip off is set for 5 pm. The opponent and time for Saturday’s game will be determined after Friday’s action.
