Tate Elementary Hosts 8th Annual First Day Celebration
Dragon's Corner August 7, 2013Tate Elementary School held it’s 8th annual “First Day Celebration” today in honor of the first day of school. This day provides an opportunity for the parents to come to school with their children for the first half of the day to learn more about the school and classes. This year’s theme was “Diving Into a Great Year,” with tours of different areas of the schools and special guest speakers James Keener of the Department of Natural Resources who spoke about water and boat safety and Tracy Walker of Dawson County Library who is also a celebrated storyteller.
The celebration was the brainchild of Tate Principal Deb Longmire and Assistant Principal Destini Shope. Shope stated
We’ve always been fortunate to have a lot of parental support.
After the parents left, the kids got a special treat of Sno-Cones which was donated by Amicalola Electric Company and served by the PTO. The school serves approximately 325 kids this year.
