The Dragons Duel with the Colonels for Homecoming

Featured Stories, Team FYN Sports

The Pickens Dragons open up their 7-AAAA sub-region play this Friday night when they welcome the Cass Colonels to Dragons Stadium. This will be the tenth meeting between the Dragons and the Colonels over the years, a series that Pickens has been highly successful in. Pickens holds a 7-2 record all-time against Cass, including a dramatic 28-26 victory on the road last season.
The Colonels, who are led by longtime head coach Rick Casko, sit at 2-3 so far this season and are fresh off of a 30-17 loss to the Dalton Catamounts. Cass is expected to be just as dangerous in sub-region A thanks to some big plays on offense from senior running back Chaz Rokins and junior wide receiver Chris Morton, who are highly capable of providing the Colonels with big plays when need be.

Pickens is very capable of taking care of Cass in this game, but the key to this matchup will be to simply play their game like they have for the majority of this season. Coming off such a big win over the Ridgeland Panthers last week could possibly leave the players riding too high, which will make big plays early on for the Dragons’ offense very important.

If Pickens is able to take the field and run its offense as the fans in the stands have witnessed through four games, there should be no issues whatsoever; if the passing game continues to be non-existent and the trio of Tanner Brumby, Shannon Brooks, and Jake Coleman have trouble racking up yards on the ground, the Dragons could very well find themselves upset on Homecoming just as Ridgeland was last week.

Georgia High School Football Daily Prediction: Pickens (-4) over Cass

My Prediction: The Dragons return home to an obviously excited home crowd and proves once again that they are a dangerous team in 7-AAAA this season with an impressive win over the Colonels. Leading the way for Pickens once again is the B&B duo of Tanner Brumby and Shannon Brooks, who combine for 290 yards of rushing yards and three touchdowns in a victorious effort. Final Score Cass Colonels 20, Pickens Dragons 34
