Pickens County Sheriff’s Offices Sergeant Bleckey isn’t shy to admit while he’s a hard worker, he enjoys the days he gets to indulge in his “spa” treatments. Ever since the K-9 officer came to work at the office in the fall of 2009, he’s had a monthly (if not more frequent) day at Abba Dabba Dawg getting his groom on. No, he’s not a serial marrier….but he doesn’t mind getting spiffed up every once in awhile. Abba Dabba Dawg has undertaken that task with love and free of charge for the work he does for the community.

Handler and pal Deputy Blake McFarland says that when they pull up to the business Bleckey’s ears perk up and he gets antsy.

“He knows he gets to just be a dog when he’s here,”

McFarland said. At 6 years old, Bleckey, a Dutch Shepherd, has been pampered under the care of Debbie Marra since he was a young pup fresh out of training.

A member of the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association, Bleckey performs many services past his official membership responsibilities. He’s trained to detect narcotics and controlled substances not only alerting to the presence of the drugs but also the lingering odor once they’ve been removed. In addition he is involved with bite work and detecting human odor. With those talents he assists the drug task force and all manner of people searches from persons responsible for crimes that have fled to even locating a missing child.

Sheriff Donnie Craig and the P.S.O. presented a plaque of appreciate for the years of dedication the business has shown to Bleckey.

Marra, owner of Abba Dabba Dawg, says when he’s there he’s treated royally and he reciprocates their love for him.

“I don’t mind when he comes in. He’s really a loving, sweet dog,”

she said.
