Prevent Child Abuse Pickens presents Long Table on Main – Creating Magic Again. On October 11th Main Street in Jasper will, once again, be transformed into an exquisite dinner party to raise funds for Prevent Child Abuse Pickens. An elaborately decorated, candelabra lit table will stretch right down the middle of Main Street. This year’s theme, a Venetian Masquerade, sold out in 10 days.Still a black-and-white-affair (not black tie, just black and white) this year’s planners invite guests to add a splash of color – typically gold or purple and to don a colorful mask. Coco’s Cottage on Main Street and Madeline’s on E. Church Street are offering masks appropriate for the occasion.

Guests will enjoy tantalizing appetizers and enjoy dancing the 18 piece Atlanta Swing Orchestra as waiters serve an elaborate four course meal, followed by a spirited live and silent auction.

Last year was a most memorable night for the 150 guests and for Prevent Child Abuse Pickens as the LToM turned out to be the single largest fundraising event in the history of PCAP.

The Venetian feast will feature the uniqueness and excellence we’ve come to expect from Coast2CCoast Catering – appetizers of Peperoni Ripieni, Arancini di Cariofo, Fromaggio Italiano. A soup of roasted garlic and cannellini beans served in a rustic bread bowl. Entrees of Osso Buco d’Porco (braised pork), Angello Farcto (stuffed lamb) or Crespelle d’ Aragosta (lobster crepe). Guest will certainly save room for Torta al Cioccolato or Crostata di Ricotta al Limone.

PCAP anticipates lively bidding on the exciting items in the live auction featuring catered dining, vacation homes and golf packages. There will be an enticing silent auction offer packages of local interest.

Last year, Alexis Cook attended the first Long Table on Main and found a cause that she could support. In her usual thoughtful and enthusiastic way, she discussed what she had learned about child abuse and PCAP with her friends. She found they were totally unaware of the extent of the problem. This Wildwood Academy sophomore has a passionate drive to help others. Alexis withdrew the money from her college savings funds and handed over a substantial check to PCAP. She is selling books at the
Saturday morning Village Festival, cat sitting and is organizing a car wash with her friends to replenish those funds. She’s brainstorming on other ways to reach her goal. She plans on volunteering at future PCAP events.

Alexis Cook is a very accomplished woman for 15 years old. She has participated in the Odyssey of the Mind competition and has finished in the top 3 in the world on 3 separate occasions. She has participated in literary contests for GISA and the oratorical contest sponsored by the Optimist Club. Alexis is looking ahead to college and graduate school to study forensic anthropology. “I’m looking for a path that will allow me to help people today, as well as in the future.” she concluded. And she will find it. Just talk to her for five minutes and you’ll be a believer.

Our Mission
The mission of Prevent Child Abuse Pickens is to “prevent child abuse and neglect in all forms through education and support”. Through our Footsteps for Families program, the family of every child born at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital is visited by a trained case worker and given a ‘Welcome Baby’ bag with educational and resource information as well as an invitation to participate in our Parents As Teachers program. This nationally acclaimed program provides the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life. We currently are assisting 60 families provide a nourishing and healthy childhood for their children. We have helped thousands over our 20 years of existence. Every child deserves an normal childhood with the opportunity to grow up to be a productive citizen.
