Pickens County Commissioners Talk Road Closure
News September 4, 2015
Safety was the main concern as Pickens County Board of commissioners discussed a possible road closure at their monthly workshop on September 3rd. The Salvation Army has requested that the portion of Old Grandview Road that runs through their property, Camp Grandview, be closed starting at The Salvation Army’s newest property acquisition, 2256 Old Grandview Road. The Salvation Army is concerned about the safety of the camp with traffic traveling through the camp. There are other ways to get to the camp including Windy Ridge Road.
Chairman Robert Jones said, “If we desire to close it, the only recommendation I would make is I would like a perpetual easement on that, in case in the future we or someone wants to run a water line down that way, when and if water becomes available in that area.”
The Commissioners also discussed the received Requests for Proposal for a compensation/classification study to help update county workers’ job descriptions and compensation. Three companies made bid for the study. Condrey and Associates bid $44,000, Management Advisory Group bid $39,400, and Springsted bid $46,160. Dr. Stephen Condrey of Condrey and Associates performed work for Pickens County in the early 2000s. Condrey and Associates also has the advantage of the most face-to-face interview time with employees for the survey. The lowest bidder, Management Advisory Group, uses internet questionnaires and has the least amount of face-to-face time for interviews with employees. Since
Other items discussed include an appointment to the Water Board and making Pickens County a Purple Heart County. Phillip O’Bryant was named as a candidate for Water Board, since he works in the county water system, which is a prerequisite to being on the water board.
Pickens County becoming a Purple Heart County is a way to recognize veterans who have served in the county. The commission would like to look at resolutions made by other counties and make one of their own before next year.
Action on all the items discussed in this workshop are expected at the next meeting of the commissioners on September 17.
