James Thomas Hicks, age 84, of Jasper passed away at his home on Monday, October 5, 2015 after an extended illness. James was born on September 15, 1931 in Roswell, Georgia to James William Hicks and Ida Dalton Hicks.

He worked for seventeen years with Electric Storage and Battery in Atlanta, as well as holding many auto body shop positions through the years, including body shop manager at various automobile dealerships. He retired from Disharoon Automotive with thirteen years of service as an auto body technician at age 75. James enjoyed his work and retired due to declining health. He loved the friends and acquaintances he made along the way.

He married Jane W. Hicks on May 14, 1949. They met before grade school and went through school together. They celebrated 66 anniversaries and treasured their time together. Our “Papa” loved to laugh and enjoyed his family and the simple everyday pleasures of life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Donna Hicks, Barry and Terri Hicks; daughters, Carol Padgett, Annette Wright, and Andrea Hicks, as well as, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2015 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Purcell officiating.
