Benjamin Harry Collins, 73, passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2017. Born on December 7, 1943 in Jacksonville, FL, he was a graduate of Jacksonville University and began his professional career at Southern Bell, holding a variety of positions in marketing and sales. In 1974 he moved to Atlanta, and it was there where he eventually met his wife, Devon Shields Collins, who he has been married to since 1980.
After retiring, Ben moved to Big Canoe, GA where he was instrumental in community projects including leading the large group of volunteers who built the original facility of the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center in Jasper. He was also very active with the Big Canoe Chapel, holding such positions as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Property Committee, and Sunday school teacher.
Ben and Devon traveled extensively, visiting numerous places across the US as well as Europe, Israel, Greece, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
In addition to his wife Devon, he is survived by many loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m. at the Big Canoe Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice or the Big Canoe Chapel Property Committee in honor of Ben Collins.
