Nettes split season series with Lady Rebels

Jasper, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes, were back on the home floor on Saturday, January 10th as they took on the Fannin Lady Rebels in non-region play. These two teams met early on in the season back on November 18th, with the Nettes coming away with the narrow victory. The rematch, was also very tightly contested. The Lady Rebels, would hold off a late rally by the Nettes as they would hang on to pick up the win, 60-55.

 

Ellison Steinhauer, would get the scoring started as she would put the Nettes ahead by a bucket. After a bit of a back and forth, Darbi Stanley, would find Skyler Lathem inside for a layup to make it 4-0. Izzie Jabaley and Avi Ethington, would make back to back baskets for the Lady Rebels to tie things up. Another bucket by Steinhauer, would once again put the Nettes in front.

Ethington, would make a pair of free throws to tie it up at 6. Steinhauer, would complete an and one play to give the Nettes a 9-6 lead. After a three by Maggie Ledford tied the game, Steinhauer, off to a fast start, would put the Nettes ahead. A late three by Reese Lewis, would put the Lady Rebels up 12-11 heading to the second quarter.

 

A bucket by Ethington to start the second quarter, would put the Lady Rebels up by three. Stanley, would get into the score book with a three to tie the game at 14. A 5-0 run by Albany Cole and Ethington, would give the Lady Rebels a 19-14 lead. Steinhauer and Reagan Ludington, would respond with a 5-0 run of their own to tie things up at 19. The Lady Rebels, would answer that with a 9-0 run to take a 28-19 lead.

Lewis and Ethington would combine to go on that run to put Fannin in front. Ludington, would end the run with a basket to cut the lead to 7. Cole, would split a pair of free throws as the Lady Rebels would take a 29-21 lead into the break.

 

Lewis, would begin the second half with a three to put the Lady Rebels up 32-21. Back to back buckets by Stanley and Steinhauer, would cut the lead back to 7. Cole, Lewis, and Jabaley, would respond with a 6-0 run to make it 38-25. A basket by Steinhauer and an and-1 play by Ludington, would cut the lead to 8. A late basket by Toccoa Hampton, would put the Lady Rebels up 40-30 heading to the fourth.

 

Stanley, Steinhauer, and Lathem, would combine to go on a 7-0 run to start the fourth quarter to cut the Lady Rebels lead to 3. After a bit of a back and forth and technical fouls, the Lady Rebels found themselves up by 10 with just over a minute left. Steinhauer, would make a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 8. The Nettes, would then get the ball back and Bree Jewell would hit a three to cut the lead to 5.

Steinhauer, would make another pair of free throws to trim the lead to 3. The Lady Rebels, with the ball with a little over 20 seconds left, put up a shot that the Nettes would rebound. The Nettes, would set up a play for a potential game tying three, but it would fall short and the Lady Rebels would grab it. Jabayley, would hit a pair of free throws to help seal the win for Fannin, 60-55.

Nettes pick up big win against White County

Jasper, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes, were on the home floor for the first time in 2026 as they took on the Lady Warriors of White County on Friday, January 9th. The Nettes, were looking to rebound after a tough loss at North Hall on Tuesday night. The Lady Warriors, came into the game at the top of the 6-AAA region standings. After a slow start by the Nettes, they were able to rally and pick up a much needed win, 44-40.

 

The first quarter, did not go the way the Nettes had hoped it would as the Lady Warriors came out of the gate with an 11-0 run to start the game. Kalynn Watkins, Aslyn Burkett, Zara Gosse, and Ella Kate Shedd were all a part of the Lady Warrior run. Ellison Steinhauer, would finally get a bucket to fall to get the Nettes on the board. A three by Burkett, would put the Lady Warriors up 14-2. A tough lay-in by Steinhauer, would make it 14-4 Lady Warriors heading to the second quarter.

 

The Nettes, would come out with a different mindset in the second quarter as a 10-0 run sparked by Steinhauer and Bree Jewell, would tie the ball game at 14. Shedd, would put an end to the run as she would go on a 5-0 run to give the Lady Warriors a 19-14 lead. Steinhauer, would knock down a three to make it 19-17. After another basket by Shedd, freshman Darbi Stanley, would hit a three to make it 21-20 White County at the break.

 

The second half started with Steinhauer giving the Nettes their first lead of the game with a bucket. The Lady Warriors, would counter with a 6-0 run to make it 27-22. After a timeout, Tania Rivera, would cut the lead to three with a layup. A basket by Shedd, would bring the lead back to five. Steinhauer, would then split a pair of free throws to make it 29-25.

A three by Reagan Ludington, would trim the Lady Warrior lead down to one. Just before the third quarter buzzer, Steinhauer, would nail a fade away jumper to give the Nettes a 30-29 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

 

Steinhauer, would get things going in the fourth with a bucket to extend the lead to three. Gosse, would connect on a little jumper to cut the lead back to one. Steinhauer, would answer with a three to make it a four point game. Gosse, would split a pair of free throws on the other end to cut the lead to three. A discussion was then had about a ball out of bounds that was initially called out on Pickens was reversed after the officials determined it went off of White County.

The White County bench, would then receive a warning. After the Lady Warriors called timeout, the head coach would receive a technical. Steinhauer, would split the technical free throw shots. After a timeout by the Nettes, Steinhauer, would get another one to fall to make it a six point game. Shedd, would cut that lead in half with a three. Steinhauer, would then get a jumper to go to make it a five point advantage.

Gosse, would make a pair of free throws to trim the lead back to three at 40-37. Ludington, would then step to the line and make a pair of free throws to once again give the Nettes a five point lead. After a big defensive rebound by Skyler Lathem, she would knock down a pair of free throws to make it 44-37. A last second three by Anijah Moss, would give us a final of 44-40.

Nettes pick up win over #1 ranked Lady Rebels

Blue Ridge, GA — On Tuesday, November 18th, the Pickens Dragonettes, made their way up to Blue Ridge to take on the Fannin Lady Rebels. The Nettes, were coming off a tough opening season loss to a ranked A D-I Lamar County team on Saturday, November 15th. The Lady Rebels, were tipping off their season and came in ranked #1 in A D-I as the defending state champions. In a back and forth contest, the Nettes, were able to hang on to a 58-56 win.

 

Ellison Steinhauer, the lone senior on this year’s Nettes team, got the scoring started with a jumper to give Pickens an early lead. The Lady Rebels, would then dump the ball down to Reese Lewis, who hit a quick turnaround layup to tie the game. After getting fouled, Lewis, would split a pair of free throws to give Fannin a 3-2 advantage. Bree Jewell, would give the Nettes a 5-3 lead after hitting a three.

The Lady Rebels, would counter with an 8-0 run to take an 11-5 lead. Freshman Darbi Stanley, who has made an early impact, would end the run with a three to cut the lead to 11-8. After Lewis split another pair of free throws, Toccoa Hampton, would hit a three to make it 15-8. Tania Rivera, would close the first quarter with a three to cut the Lady Rebels lead down to 15-11.

 

A bucket by the Lady Rebels, would make it 17-11 to begin the second quarter, a 5-0 run by Rivera, would close the gap to just one. After a basket by Fannin put an end to the run, Steinhauer would split a pair of free throws and make a jumper. Reagan Ludington, would follow that with a lay in to make it a 21-20 Nettes advantage. Lewis, would give the Lady Rebels the lead after she would make a layup and hit the free throw.

A bucket by Steinhauer, would tie things up at 23. A three by Caleigh Hofford, would put the Nettes up, 26-23. After Lewis split a pair of free throws, Steinhauer, would sink both of her free throws to end the first half. At halftime, the Nettes led the Lady Rebels, 28-24.

 

Avi Ethington and Izzie Jabaley, would combine to go on a 7-0 run to start the third quarter to give the Lady Rebels a 31-28 lead. Rivera, would put an end to the run with a three to tie the game at 31. After Jabaley split a pair of free throws, Steinhauer and Stanley would combine for an 8-0 run to make it 39-32. After a basket by the Lady Rebels ended the run, Hofford and Steinhauer, would go on a 5-0 run to make it 44-34.

A 4-0 run by Jabaley, would close out the third quarter and cut the Nettes lead down to 44-38 heading to the fourth quarter.

 

The run would continue into the fourth quarter as Ethington would hit a three, and Jabaley would make a layup to cut the lead to one. Another big three by Rivera, would stretch the lead to 47-43. After a pair of free throws by Albany Cole, Stanley, would hit a jumper to make it 49-45. A free throw make by Lewis, would cut the lead to three. Steinhauer and Maggie Ledford, would then trade layups as the Nettes led it 53-48.

A basket by Jabaley, would once again cut the lead to three. It then became a free throw game as Steinhauer would hit four straight to make it 57-50. A three by Jabaley, would cut the lead to four. After Steinhauer split a pair of free throws, Jabaley, would make a running three pointer in the last few seconds of the game to make 58-56 as the Nettes, come away with the win.

The Nettes, will begin the PHS Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday, November 22nd. The round robin format will feature Pickens, Gilmer, North Cobb, and Woodstock on the girls side of things. The Nettes, will open up against North Cobb. Tip off is set for 6 pm.

Nettes begin Holiday Tournament with win

Blue Ridge, Ga — It’s Holiday tournament season as the 2023 portion of the season is wrapping up. The Pickens Dragonettes, will participate in two Holiday tournaments the remainder of this week, and next week. First up, the Holiday Tournament being held at Fannin. The Nettes, took on the host team, the Fannin Lady Rebels on Tuesday, December 19th. The Nettes, moved to 10-0 on the season after getting past a very game Lady Rebels team, 56-45.

 

The first quarter belonged to two Seniors. Caroline Mullins of the Nettes, and Courtney Davis of the Lady Rebels. These two young ladies put on a show in the opening quarter going back and forth. Davis, scored 12 of her teams 14 first quarter points, while Mullins scored 11 of her teams 15 first quarter points. For Davis, two of those points were extra special because she became the Lady Rebels all-time leading scorer at the 5:27 mark of the first quarter.

Both Davis and Mullins will be heading to the next level as Davis will be heading to Young Harris, and Mullins will be heading to UVA-Wise. Heading to the second quarter, it was the Nettes that held a 15-14 lead.

 

The second quarter started with Bella Hopkins splitting a pair of free throws and Mullins made a layup to make it 18-14. Macy Hawkins, cut it to 18-16 with a layup of her own. Mullins, Hopkins, and Ellison Steinhauer, would combine for a 6-0 run to make it 24-16. A 4-0 run by Reese Lewis would cut the Nettes lead in half. Pickens, would end the first half on a 8-0 run as Caleigh Hoffard made a layup, and Steinhauer scored the final 6 points to make it 32-20.

 

Mullins, got the third quarter going with a three pointer to make it 35-20. Davis, would respond with a 7-0 run to cut the lead down to 35-27. Steinhauer and Mullins countered with a 4-0 run to stretch the lead back to double digits. After a three pointer by Emma Buchanan, Steinhauer and Hopkins closed out the third quarter with a 4-0 run to make it 43-30 Nettes going to the fourth.

 

The fourth quarter began with the Lady Rebels going on a 4-0 run to cut the Nettes lead down to 9. A Mullins layup, and back to back baskets from Hopkins, including a three, put the Nettes up 50-34. Hawkins ended the run with a layup to make it 50-36. After two free throws by Mullins, Izzie Jabaley hit a three to make it 52-39. The Nettes, would hold on to pick up the win, 56-45.

Mullins hits 1K career points as Nettes move to 5-0

Jasper, Ga — For the first time in a decade the Pickens Dragonettes hosted the Fannin County Lady Rebels at PHS on Tuesday, November 28th. Coming into the game, the Nettes, were 4-0 and ranked 4th in the 3A top ten. The Lady Rebels, had not played a game up until this point as they were looking to get their ’23-’24 season tipped off. The Nettes, jumped out to an early lead in this one and used it to propel themselves to a 56-29 win.

 

The first quarter started out slow for both teams as there were more fouls than points early on. Reese Lewis, split a pair of free throws to give the Lady Rebels a 1-0 lead. The Nettes, would then get things rolling and go on a 17-0 run highlighted by UVA-Wise signee Caroline Mullins becoming the 21st Nettes player to surpass the 1,000 career point mark. Pickens, finished the first quarter on a 20-2 run as the Nettes led it, 20-3 going to the second.

 

Maggie Ledford, got things going for the Lady Rebels to start the second quarter as she hit a bucket to make it 20-5. The Nettes, would go on a 12-0 run to make it 32-5. The Lady Rebels, would go on a 6-0 run as Callie Ensley hit two free throws, and Izzie Jabaley and Lewis made baskets to make it 32-11. Ellison Steinhauer got the final bucket of the first half as the Nettes held a 34-11 lead at the half.

 

Mullins, got things rolling for the Nettes to start the second half as her basket made it 36-11. Young Harris signee Courtney Davis, picked up her first points of the game with a tough bucket and Ledford followed with a basket of her own to make it 36-15. The Nettes, would then go on a 9-0 run as Steinhauer made two three pointers, and Mullins connected on one as well to make it 45-15. Davis, ended the run with her first three of the contest. The Nettes, closed out the third with an 8-0 run to make it 53-18 going to the fourth.

 

In a shortened fourth quarter, the Lady Rebels got 5 points from Davis, and buckets from Macy Hawkins, Ledford, and Jabaley. The Nettes, got a three pointer from Ashaela Buchanan. Final score from Jasper, Pickens 56 Fannin 29.

Nettes win Thanksgiving tournament

Jasper, Ga — It was a battle of top ten teams in Jasper on Tuesday, November 21st as the #5 ranked team in 3A, the Pickens Dragonettes, welcomed the #9 team in 6A, the Creekview Lady Grizzlies. The Nettes, came into the game with a 3-0 record. The Lady Grizzlies, came in with a 2-1 record. The Nettes, had three score in double digits as they came away with the win, 60-42.

 

In the first quarter, Sophomore Ellison Steinhauer got things going with a nice up and under move for the layup. The Lady Grizzlies, got their first points and took the lead on the same shot as they were able to hit a corner three. Senior Bella Hopkins, put the Nettes back in front with a corner three of her own. After the Lady Grizzlies tied it up at 5, the Nettes controlled the rest of the quarter by going on an 11-0 run. Going to the second quarter, the Nettes led the Lady Grizzlies, 16-5.

 

A steal and a layup started the second quarter for the Lady Grizzlies as they looked to get something going. The Lady Grizzlies, would end up going on a 6-0 run before Hopkins nailed a three to put an end to it. That would spark a 10-0 run by the Nettes as Caroline Mullins would make back to back buckets and Hopkins would hit another three to make it 26-11. After the Lady Grizzlies split a pair of free throws and made a layup, Hopkins, drained another three to make it 29-14.

Steinhauer, got in on the three point fun as she hit her first of the night to make it 32-14. Heading into halftime, the Nettes held that same lead over the Lady Grizzlies, 32-14.

Creekview got the second half going with an early basket. Mullins, drew contact underneath on the other end and made a pair of free throws to make it 34-16. Later on in the third quarter, as the Lady Grizzlies were trying to make a run, Mullins received a nice entry pass from Steinhauer and finished with a turnaround layup to make it 36-24. On the next possession, Steinhauer drove in from the left corner with a stop and pop shot and made it. The two teams would trade baskets as the quarter closed. Going to the fourth, the Nettes led the Lady Grizzlies, 44-29.

The Nettes began the fourth quarter with Hopkins gathering in a rebound and taking it all the way for the bucket to make it 46-29. The Lady Grizzlies answered with a pass into one of their tall post players for the basket. Later in the fourth, after Creekview cut the lead down slightly, Hopkins, hit another three to make it 53-37. Reagan Ludington got her first points with a three to make it 56-39. After a three pointer by the Lady Grizzlies, the Nettes closed the game out with four free throw makes as they took this one, 60-42.

The Nettes finish out the Pickens Thanksgiving Tournament 3-0 and tournament champions. Now 4-0 on the season, the Nettes will have a week off until they are back on the court next Tuesday, November 28th when they host the Fannin County Lady Rebels. Tip off set for 6 pm.
