Nettes advance to 6-AAA Championship

Jasper, Ga — It was Semifinal Friday on February 14th as four teams were vying for a spot in the 6-AAA Region Championship game. The earlier game saw the White County Lady Warriors, outlast the Chestatee Lady War Eagles to advance to the championship game. The Pickens Dragonettes, took on the GAC Lady Spartans. The Nettes, would lead throughout as they would pick up a 78-50 win.
The Lady Spartans, would get on the board early as Cobi Obi, would split a pair of free throws. Ellison Steinhauer, would also split a pair of free throws on the other end to tie the game at 1. The Lady Spartans, would then go on a 4-0 run as Obi and Dru Jeckewicz, made back to back layups to give GAC a 5-1 lead. Ellie Hollis and Steinhauer, would respond with back to back buckets to tie the game at 5.
After another basket by Jeckewicz, Bella Martin, would make a pair of free throws to once again tie the ball game. Asia Johnson, would put the Lady Spartans back in front with a layup. A three pointer by Steinhauer, would give the Nettes an 11-10 lead. After a three by Barri Newman, the Nettes, would go on a 6-0 run as Martin would hit a three, and make a jumper. Bree Jewell, would split a pair of free throws to make it 16-12.
A late bucket by Jeckewicz, would cut the lead down to 16-14 heading to the second quarter.
Steinhauer, would get the second quarter going with a three to make it 19-14. Jeckewicz, would answer with a three of her own to make it 19-17. A 4-0 run by Steinhauer and Tania Rivera, would stretch the lead to 23-17. After a layup by Obi, Rivera and Steinhauer, would again combine for another 4-0 run to make it 27-19. A three by Johnson, would cut the lead down to 27-22.
Steinhauer and Rivera, would again team up as they would combine to go on a 5-0 run to make it 32-22. Newman and Brylee Deering, would trade three point baskets to close out the first half as the Nettes would take a 35-25 lead into the half.
Johnson, would start the second half with a layup to cut the lead to 8. The Nettes, would then go on a 7-0 run as Deering would hit a three, Hollis would make a layup, and Martin would connect on a jumper to stretch the lead out to 42-27. Jaymee Carter, would split a pair of free throws to end the run and make it 42-28. Steinhauer and Martin, would then combine for an 8-0 run to make it 50-28.
The Lady Spartans, would score four straight points as Newman, would make a pair of free throws and Jeckewicz, would make a basket to cut the lead to 50-32. After a layup by Rivera, Johnson, would split a pair of free throws and then add a layup to make it 52-35. Steinhauer and Newman, would trade three point buckets to end the third quarter as the Nettes held a 55-38 lead heading to the fourth.
Rivera and Newman, would trade three pointers to begin the fourth quarter. Reagan Ludington and Rivera, would then combine for a 5-0 run to stretch the lead out to 63-41. After a bucket by Lizzy Hathaway, Rivera and Deering, would make back to back layups to make it 67-43. Johnson, would then hit a pair of free throws to make it 67-45. After a three by Martin, Carter, would split a pair of free throws to make it 70-46.
Steinhauer and Hollis, would then go on a 5-0 run to stretch the lead out to 75-46. After a layup by Johnson, Steinhauer, would make three of four free throws to make it 78-48. A late layup by Johnson, would make it 78-50. The Nettes, would punch their ticket to the 6-AAA Region Championship with a 78-50 win.

Nettes advance to 6-AAA Semifinals

Jasper, Ga — The girls side of the 6-AAA Region Tournament began on Tuesday, February 11th as teams were looking to officially punch their ticket to the State Tournament. The Pickens Dragonettes, the host team for the tournament, came into the tournament as the #1 seed. Their opponent, the Johnson Lady Knights, came into the tournament as the #8 seed. Earlier games saw GAC defeat Dawson, Chestatee defeat North Hall, and White County defeat Lumpkin. The Nettes, would get past the Lady Knights, 75-18.
The Nettes, would begin the game by going on a 16-0 run as all five starters Bella Martin, Reagan Ludington, Brylee Deering, Ellison Steinhauer, and Ellie Hollis all contributed to the run. A pair of free throws by Harbor Landers, would put an end to the run and make it 16-2. The Nettes, would then go on a 20-0 run as Martin, Tania Rivera, Steinhauer, and Bree Jewell would all score during the run.
A three by Elena Rhoads, would end that Nettes run and make it 36-5. A late three by Steinhauer, would give the Nettes a 39-5 lead heading to the second quarter.
A three by Ludington, would get the second quarter started to make it 42-5. After a layup by Landers, Jewell and Ludington, would go on a 6-0 run to make it 48-7. The Lady Knights, would then counter with a 5-0 run as Rhoads hit her second three of the game and Landers would follow with a layup to cut the lead to 48-12. The Nettes, would close out the first half on a 10-0 run as Ruby Flatt, Kylee Bozeman, Jewell, and Skyler Lathem would make it 58-12 at the break.
The second half would be shortened to 6 minute quarters. Landers, would begin the scoring in the third quarter with a bucket to make it 58-14. Flatt and Lathem, would then combine to go on a 7-0 run throughout the rest of the quarter as the Nettes, would take a 65-14 lead into the fourth.
Bozeman and Jewell, would begin the fourth quarter by going on a 5-0 run to make it 70-14. A pair of free throws by Taelor Carruth, would make it 70-16. Caleigh Hofford, would get into the score book with a layup to make it 72-16. Landers, would connect on another basket to make it 72-18. A late three pointer by Sophie Adams, would make it 75-18. The Nettes, would pick up the win, 75-18.

The winner, will go on to face the winner of White County and Chestatee on Saturday, February 15th. Tip off for the Nettes and Lady Spartans is set for 7 pm.
Second half bounce back helps Nettes sweep GAC

Norcoss, Ga — On Tuesday, January 28th, the Pickens Dragonettes made their way down to Norcross to take on the Lady Spartans of Greater Atlanta Christian School in a 6-AAA match up. Coming into the game, the Nettes, were 18-2 and 9-1 in region play. The Lady Spartans, were 11-9 and 4-5 in region play. With the Lady Spartans looking for the upset bid, Ellison Steinhauer would score a game high 31 points as she helped lead a big second half comeback. The Nettes, would get the win, 56-48.
The Lady Spartans got on the board first after a pair of free throws by Lizzy Hathaway. After a bucket by Stienhauer would tie it up, Hathaway, would hit a three to make it 5-2. Steinhauer, would come back with a layup to make it 5-4. Hathaway, would then hit another three to stretch the lead out to 8-4. Steinhauer, would then cut the lead in half with another basket to make it 8-6.
Dru Jeckewicz, would then split a pair of free throws to make it 9-6. A pair of free throws from Steinhauer, would cut the lead down to one. A bucket by Asia Johnson, would make it 11-8. The Nettes, would end the first quarter on a 5-0 run as Bella Martin would hit a three and Steinhauer would hit a jumper to make it 13-11 Nettes heading to the second quarter.
A basket by Barri Newman, would get the second quarter scoring started as she would tie the game at 13. A bucket by Steinhauer, would give the Nettes a 15-13 lead. Hathaway and Newman, would then go on a 5-0 run to give the Lady Spartans an 18-15 lead. Another Steinhauer basket, would cut the lead down to one. A layup by Jaymee Carter, would give the Lady Spartans a 20-17 lead at the half.
A 4-0 run by Johnson and Newman to begin the second half, would make it 24-17 Lady Spartans. After Steinhauer and Johnson traded baskets, Brylee Deering, Reagan Ludington, Steinhauer, and Martin, would combine to go on a 12-0 run to make it 29-26 as the Nettes would take that three point lead into the fourth quarter.
A three by Steinhauer, would stretch the lead to 32-26. After a layup by Jermani Govan made it 32-28, the Nettes, would on an 8-0 run as Tania Rivera would hit a three, and Steinhauer would hit a three and make a pair of free throws. The Nettes lead would grow to 40-28. After Newman would make a layup and split a pair of free throws, Rivera would hit another three to make it 43-31.
After Johnson and Martin traded buckets, Jeckewicz and Newman would hit back to back threes to cut the lead to 46-39. Steinhauer, would respond with a three of her own to make it a 10 point game. After Jekewicz split a pair of free throws, Newman, would make a layup to cut the lead to 49-42. A basket by Ludington, would stretch the lead back to 9.
A bucket by Jekewicz, would once again cut the lead down to 7. After Martin split a pair of free throws, Carter, would make both of her free throws to make it 52-46. After being intentionally fouled, Martin, would make both of her free throws to make it 54-46. Steinhauer, would follow suit and make both of hers to make it 56-46. Govan, would make a pair of late free throws as the Nettes would come away with the win, 56-48.

The Nettes, will be back home on Friday, January 31st as they begin a three game home stand to close out the ’24-’25 regular season as the White County Lady Warriors come to Jasper for a massive 6-AAA game. The Nettes, defeated the Lady Warriors in a close game back on January 3rd. A win for the Nettes on Friday, would go a long way in helping them clinch a regular season region title, and the 1 seed in the region tournament. Tip off is set for 6 pm.
Nettes win back and forth game with Lady Spartans

Jasper, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes, were back home on Thursday, January 9th as they welcomed the Greater Atlanta Christian Lady Spartans to the Dragons Den for another big time game in 6-AAA. Due to the weather that was on the way, this game got moved up from Friday, January 10th. The Nettes, came into the game with a 14-1 overall record and 5-0 in region play. The Lady Spartans, came into the game 9-5 overall and 2-3 in region play. This ball game, was back and forth throughout as the Nettes would pull away late to come away with a 57-47 win.
The Nettes, would get things going to open the first quarter as Ellison Steinhauer made her way into the lane for the bucket. After both teams traded baskets, Reagan Ludington would break the tie to make it 7-4 Nettes. Throughout the rest of the first quarter, both teams would each score four points as the Nettes would lead the Lady Spartans, 11-8 heading to the second quarter.
After a bit of a back and forth to open the second quarter, the Nettes would go on a run to build up a 21-11 lead. The Lady Spartans, would counter with a big run of their own to cut the lead down to 2. The Nettes, would end the first half on a good note as they were able to stretch their lead out to five before the break. Heading into halftime, the Nettes, led the Lady Spartans, 27-22.
The Lady Spartans, would come out to start the second half with a run to take their first lead of the game a 32-31. The Nettes, would battle back as they would outscore the Lady Spartans, 10-3 the rest of the quarter to retake the lead and hold a 41-35 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter saw both teams swap buckets as the Lady Spartans kept trying to chip away at the Nettes lead. The Nettes, would open up an 11 points lead over the Lady Spartans later on in the quarter. The biggest lead of the game. The Nettes, would come away with a 57-47 win to remain unbeaten in region play.

The Nettes, were scheduled to take on Walton on Saturday, January 11th, but with the weather coming in, all after school activities were cancelled for Saturday. No word on if that game will be made up or not. The next game on the schedule for the Nettes, is a road game at Dawson as they battle the Lady Tigers. That one is set for Tuesday, January 14th. Tip off is scheduled for 6 pm.
Nettes stay undefeated in region play

Gainesville, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes, took to the road on Tuesday, January 7th as they took on the Johnson Lady Knights in 6-AAA action. Coming into the game, the Nettes, were 13-1 overall and leading the region with a 4-0 record. The Lady Knights, came into the game struggling as they were 0-11 on the season and 0-4 in region play. The younger players for the Nettes really shined in this one as Pickens took home a 70-15 win.
The Nettes, began the ball game by going on a 22-0 run. Reagan Ludington, Ellison Steinhauer, Brylee Deering, and Ellie Hollis all contributed to the run. Harbor Landers, would put an end to the run as she would get the Lady Knights on the board with a three. Heading to the second quarter, the Nettes led it, 22-3.
Emily Hernandez, would start the second quarter by making a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 22-5. The Nettes, would then go on a 7-0 run as Bella Martin would split a pair of free throws, and Deering, and Caleigh Hoffard would hit back to back three pointers to make it 29-5. A bucket by Karina Ordonez, would put an end to the run and make it 29-7.
After Landers would split a pair of free throws, the Nettes, would end the first half on a 13-0 run including a buzzer beating three pointer from Bree Jewell that hit every part of the basket before eventually going in. The Nettes, lead the Lady Knights, 42-8 at the break.
The Nettes, would begin the second half by continuing the run they were on to close out the first half as they scored another 8 straight points for a total run of 21-0 and stretch the lead out to 51-8. Hernandez, would end the run with a bucket. She would complete the and-1 play by hitting the free throw to make it 51-11. The Nettes, would end the third quarter with a 5-0 run as Tania Rivera and Jewell combined for the run. The Nettes led it, 56-11 after three.
The Nettes, started the shortened fourth quarter by going on a 14-0 run to make it 70-11. The Lady Knights, would close out the ball game on a 4-0 run as Ordonez would split a pair of free throws, and Landers would hit her second three of the game. The Nettes, would take this one, 70-15.
