Pickens Picks Up Two of Three

The Pickens Dragonettes and Dragons have started the season off on fire despite the cold temperatures. The Dragonettes are undefeated at 2-0 while the Dragons are 1-1, with a win against Fannin and a loss to Forsyth Central.After delays due to the recent icy impediments Pickens hosted the Lady Rebels on Monday February 24th. The “Nettes” nixed the Lady Rebels with a sweep, winning all five matches.

Peyton Heath led the team at # 1 singles with a 6-0,6-1 win. Claire Callahan won at # 2 with a score of 7-6, 6-3 and freshman Kirsten Elrod won with a score of 6-2,6-0 at the # 3 spot. Both doubles teams, Summer and Stephanie, Riddle and Kari Henke and Paula Pickett, put up wins.

The Dragon won 4-1, with the lone loss coming in the #1 singles match. Jason Dupree won in three sets at the # 2 spot with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Chris Dallas “cowboy’d up” with a 6-2,6-3 win at the # 3 spot. Both boys doubles teams won their matches as well. Those doubles teams included Christian Stewart and Josh Golden along with Jesse Brooks and freshman Skyler Denton.

The Lady Bulldogs bit a little harder; however, the “Nettes” nipped Forsyth Central 3-2. Heath won 6-3,6-4 at # 1, while Kirsten Elrod lost at the # 2 spot, 1-6,4-6. Ginny Morris won at the # 3 spot 6-2, 6-1.

The third win came via the Riddles’ #2 doubles team, 6-2, 6-1. The Dragons came close but fell 2-3 to the Bulldogs.
