The Pickens High School football team has released the annual Iron Man competition results have been released. There are 18 new 2015 PHS Iron Men.

Pickens Picks Up 14 Placings

Ellison Steinhauer at State Swim Meet

The Pickens County Sea Dragons swim team traveled to Tifton to take part in the State Recreational League Swim Meet. The Sea Dragons stocked up 14 placings amongst 15 place winners.

Anthony Jordan had the highest placing, picking up a third place medal in the Boys 11-12 50 Yard Butterfly, barely ahead of Gabe Womack who placed fourth in the same event. Womack also picked up an eighth place finish in the Boys 11-12 100 Yard Freestyle.

Victor Lane finished fifth in the Boys 13-14 50 Yard Breaststroke. Angela Casey placed sixth in the Girls 9-10 25 Yard Breaststroke.

Ellison Steinhauer recorded seventh place finishes in both the Girls 7-8 50 Yard Freestyle and the Girls 7-8 25 Yard Breaststroke, with Hannah Murphy following at eighth in the latter event.

The Girls 12 & Under Relay team of Michelle Pickett, Terry Elisebeth, Elizabeth Arrendale and Savannah Mauldin placed seventh in the 200 Yard Freestyle, while the Girls 12 & Under 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Aubrey Ortman, Marie Blackmar, Madeline Pool, Libby Womack and Shannon Johnson had an eight place finish.

Both Ortman and Pickett picked up Pickens’ eight place medals in Girls 13-14 100 IM and the Girls 11-12 50 Yard Breaststroke respectively.

Pickens High School head football coach, Chris Parker, recently sat down with Team FYN Sports to discuss the summer work being put in by the Dragons as well as the outlook for the 2015 season, with out star running back, Shannon Brooks.

Parker spoke about the work that his team has been putting in during the off season as well as the Iron Man testing currently taking place. He also discussed Region 7-AAAA, its competitiveness and some of the best players he expects to play against.

Bobcats Burnt: Pickens Pounds Region Rival 11-0

The Pickens High School Dragons baseball team burnt the Bobcats of Gilmer with an 11-0 road victory. The win saw the game called after the fourth inning and starting pitcher, Travis Huffman, throw the full four innings of shutout baseball with seven strike outs, including the last two outs of the night. The Pickens High School North Georgia Soccer Classic was won by the Dragons for the second straight year. The Dragonettes finished second, to Lafayette. Both the Dragonettes and Dragons secured their places with wins over region rival, Gilmer High School. Lafayette was the third participant, with the Lady Ramblers taking first place and the Ramblers taking second. (more…)

Koby Stakes Claim as State’s Best

The Pickens High School Dragons wrestling team took two wrestlers to the State Traditional Tournament, Koby Milner and Josh Massey, with Milner competing at 106 and Massey at 170. Milner, entering the tournament as the favorite, with a record of 36-3, came away with the 106 state championship after a 12-0 defeat of Gilmer’s Domingo Reynoso in the finals. (more…)

17-2, 11-0, 4-3. Those are the scores of the matches Koby Milner wrestled before the finals of the GHSA 4A West Sectional tournament on Friday and Saturday. Each match represented another stepping stone on Milner’s march toward a state title. Each victory gave more credence to the thought that Milner, now 36-3 on the season, is the best 106 pound wrestler in AAAA. (more…)

Three Dragons Qualify for Sectionals

The Pickens High School Dragons wrestling team traveled to Ridgeland High School to take part in the Area Traditional Tournament. Five wrestlers placed, with three wrestlers qualifying for the Sectionals Tournament for a chance to compete in the State Tournament. Koby Milner won the 106 weight class, and Josh Massey and John Holbert both place fourth at 170 and 195 respectively. Try Lund (220) and Elliot Gallagher (285) placed fifth and sixth respectively. The top four place winners from each weight class move on to Sectionals. (more…)

The Pickens High School Dragons wrestling team, traveled to Gilmer High School to take part in the Area 7-AAAA Duals tournament. While the Dragons did not qualify for the State Tournament, Pickens did pick up a win over Southeast Whitfield, routing the Raiders 48-15. (more…)

The Pickens High School wrestling team faced off in Area competition with the Gilmer High School Bobcats and Ridgeland High School Panthers. While the defending state Duals and Traditional AAAA champion Bobcats bested the Dragons, 69-3, Pickens picked up a victory, pummeling and pouncing on the Panthers 66-18. (more…)
