Dragons’ Fire Squelched in Two of Three

The Pickens High School Dragons baseball team has fallen in two of the last three games after a experiencing a three game win streak. A 10-0 mashing of Murray was sandwiched between losses to Adairsville and Cedartown.Pickens could not pick it up against Adairsville as the air was definitely out of the Dragons’ offense. PHS managed only one run, a homer from Tyler Garner, while giving up nine. PHS did manage five hits with only two errors in the game.

Travis Huffman led the Dragons with a .667 batting average in the game. Bradley Ragano and Travis Seay both tied for second with .500. Garner was the only other Dragon to get a hit, finishing with .333 average and the aforementioned home run. The team managed a .192 on the day.

The Dragons was able to feast on the Indians of Murray County, scoring 10 runs in a blow out in front of the home crowd. Pickens picked up the lead in the first inning, with two runs scored, and never relinquished it.

One more run in the third, and seven scored in the fifth saw PHS score 10 runs on 12 hits. Zack Herman, Dalton Presley, and Garner were all perfect from the plate, finishing the game at 1.000. Walker Lawerence finished second with a .667 BA.

Jarad Gordon pitched the shutout victory with nine strike outs.

The Dragons last faced region rival, Cedartown. The Bulldogs bit first and fast, as the Dragons’ offense was held scoreless again. Cedartown took the 7-0 victory on its home turf. PHS will look for revenge as the Dragons next host the Bulldogs Thursday March 27th at 5:30 at Dragon Field.
