Last Saturday, the boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Canton to run in the Warpath Invitational held at Boling Park. The boys cross country team, ranked 7th in the 4A poll, finished 7th out of 28th teams with Wyatt Ingram placing 18th out of 190 runners with a time of 16:46 and Sean Parker finishing with the 3rd place medal with an impressive time of 16:08. The girls cross country team, missing their #1 runner, finished 13th out of 21 teams. Sabrina Young finished 31st out of 160 runners with a time of 20:37 and Bailey Mullett finished in 38th with a time of 21:12. These two freshman are well on their way to having impressive careers in cross country at PHS. The two teams will again be running on Thursday, September 18th in Rome at the Ridge Ferry Invitational.
Last Thursday, the Nettes softball team hosted the #2 team in 4A Lady Generals of Heritage. Prior to the game, the two teams came together in the infield to release red, white, and blue balloons in remembrance of the 9/11 attacks. It was also a Pink Out in Nettes stadium to help raise awareness for breast cancer. Heritage would look to start off strong but would leave two runners stranded as we would head to the home half of the 1st. As the rain would start to fall, freshman Shae Chadwick would step into the batters box and send one soaring over the left field fence giving her team a 1-0 lead headed to the 2nd inning. Heritage would then strike as they would take the lead scoring three runs in the top half of the 2nd to take a 3-1 lead. The Nettes would go quietly in the bottom of the 2nd leaving the score 3-1. The Lady Generals would drive in six more runs in the 3rd before the Nettes would get the third out stretching their lead to 9-1. That's how this one would end as the Nettes were held scoreless and the ball game was called after 5 innings. The Nettes will be in action on Tuesday, September 16th in region play at Ridgeland and at home on Thursday, September 18th against Northwest Whitfield. Both games are slated to start at 5:55 pm.
Pickens High School star running back, Shannon Brooks, who recently set a new career rushing touchdowns record with 54, has reportedly signed to play college football next year with the Minnesota Gophers.

On Thursday, the Nettes C-Team would face the Lady Rebels of Fannin County High School and would earn a sweep as they would capture both matches improving their overall record to 5-1. After starting the season 0-1, the Nettes have won 5 in a row and look to continue their streak as they travel to take on Cherokee High School at Cherokee Wednesday, September 3rd.
The Pickens High School Dragons football team welcomed the Vikings of East Hall to Dragon Stadium. The stands were packed with green and white on a great night to watch high school football. The home town fans were in for a treat as the Dragons lit fire to he Vikings with a 38-10 drubbing that saw Kyle West break the school single game sack record, with three and a half.

The Pickens High School Dragons football team traveled to Cleveland, Ga to battle the Warriors of White County. The Dragons burnt the Warriors' with a 42-34 win in the opening game of the 2014 season.

Last Saturday, the varsity and JV Cross Country teams traveled to Atlanta to run in the Saucony Battle of Atlanta in Nash Farms. With several teams competing, the Dragons and Nettes runners would have impressive showings. Ranked 4th in the 4A poll, the varsity boys team would finish 5th overall out of 41 teams while the varsity girls would finish 9th out of 31 teams. The JV boys would finish 7th out of 29 teams. Sean Parker would finish 9th overall with a time of 16:23. The teams have an off week this week but will be in action again on Saturday, September 13th in Canton, Ga at the Warpath Invitational at Boling Park.
