Pickens and Fannin split golf match in Jasper

Pickens County, Ga — Tuesday, March 9th saw the PHS Dragons and Dragonettes golf teams welcome the Fannin Rebels and Lady Rebels to Jasper for a non-region match. The match was held at the home course for the Dragons and Nettes, Bent Tree. It was a nice, crisp day for golf as the two sides played the front 9 of what can sometimes be a challenging course.

 

After all the groups came in and all the scores were tallied, both schools picked up a win each. The Pickens Dragons, bested the Fannin Rebels by a score of 166-194. The Lady Rebels, defeated the Nettes in a close final score of 158-171.

 

The Dragons and Nettes will be right back on the course tomorrow as they head to Fields Ferry in Calhoun, Ga to take on Sonoraville and Murray County in a tri-match. Tee off is set for 4 pm.

PHS Golf Wins Match Despite Rain Soaked Conditions

The PHS Golf team welcomed the Lumpkin County Indians to Bent Tree yesterday afternoon. Pickens, was coming off taking the King & Queen of 515 Tournament, and looked to continue their good play as of late. Just as the teams got going, the rain came down, & it continued throughout the duration of the match.

 

Through the rain & the nasty conditions, both the boys & girls golf teams from PHS got wins over Lumpkin. For the boys, they picked up a 178-197 win. Yates Smith, shot the low round of the day with a 38. The Dragons, are undefeated in match play so far this season.

 

The Nettes, picked up a 160-174 win themselves. Katherine Densmore shot the low round for the Nettes with a 44.

 

PHS Golf, will be off from match play untill April 11th, when they host Sonoraville. Tee off is scheduled for 4 pm.

PHS Golf Defeats Gilmer On Senior Night

It was a beautiful day at Bent Tree yesterday as the PHS Golf team celebrated it’s seniors, & hosted the Gilmer golf team. This match, would be the final home match of the season for the Dragons & Dragonettes. They looked to gain momentum heading into the region tournament, by winning this match against their 515 rival.

 

Win the match against their rival they did. The Nettes defeated the Lady Cats 153-158, while the Dragons defeated the Bobcats, 200-218, sending the seniors out with a win.

 

There will be one more regular season golf match as Pickens will head to Dahlonega on Thursday to take on Lumpkin at Achasta. Tee off is set for 4 pm. After that, PHS will head down to LaGrange for Area Tournament. They will have a practice round on Sunday the 28th, the Dragons will then play their tournament on the 29th, & then the Nettes, will play theirs on the 30th.

PHS Golf Finally Able To Compete, Defeats Fannin In Opening Match

On Wednesday, the PHS boys & girls golf teams hosted the Fannin Rebels & Lady Rebels at Bent Tree Golf Course. Due to weather related cancellations, this turned out to be the first match of the season for the PHS Golf team.

 

As the teams battled the wind while playing the front nine of Bent Tree, PHS came out on top in their 1st match. The PHS boys won with a score of 178-185, with Yates Smith leading the way, shooting a 39. The PHS girls followed their teammates & picked up a win themselves, 160-168. Leading the way for the girls was West Georgia signee Katherine Densmore, who shot a 42.

 

PHS Golf, will be right back at it today as they will take on Sonoraville at Fields Ferry in Canton. Tee off scheduled for 4 pm.

PHS Golf Splits Match With Sonoraville, Senior Night Tuesday

It was a windy, but beautiful afternoon at Bent Tree yesterday afternoon as the PHS Golf team hosted the Sonoraville Phoenix. The Dragons & Dragonettes golf teams have performed very well this season & looked to continue with the regular season coming to an end.

 

The front 9, was closed so the teams got a little treat in being able to play the back 9, & test their skill with all that it brings. In the end, Pickens & Sonoraville split the match. The PHS Girls, took home the win, 160-181, while the Phoenix got the win in a closely nit battle with the Dragons, 168-172.

 

Pickens, will have one more match before they head to the 6-AAAA Region Tournament. That match, will be next Tuesday at Bent Tree, where they will host the Gilmer Bobcats & Lady Cats for Senior Night. Tee off is set for 4 pm.

PHS Golf Crowned King & Queen After 515 Tournament

It was a warm, beautiful Saturday in Jasper Georgia yesterday and the high school golf teams of Pickens, Gilmer, & Fannin decided they wanted to get together and play. Bent Tree Golf Club in Jasper hosted the King & Queen of 515 Tournament. At the end of the afternoon, we would find out who truly reigned supreme on the links.

 

After all the drives, the chips, the putts, & maybe one or two trips to the beach, the PHS Boys & Girls golf teams came away victorious. The Dragons, finished with a 131, Fannin County came in 2nd with a 171, & Gilmer in 3rd with a 190. Low score was shot by the Dragon team of Yates Smith & Eddie Lindbert, who combined to shoot 62 for 18 holes (Par at Bent Tree is 72).

 

For the girls, the Dragonettes took it home with a 70, Fannin again came in 2nd, shooting an 80, while Gilmer came in 3rd, shooting an 89. the 70, was shot by the team of Katherine Densmore & Heather Vincent. Good for -2 par.

 

Bent Tree is a challenging course for anybody & I’d say all three schools played very well on it considering most hadn’t been to Bent Tree before yesterday.

 

As for Pickens, they will be back at Bent Tree on Tuesday as they welcome Lumpkin County for a match. Tee off is scheduled for 4 pm.

PHS Golf Splits Match With Union County On Senior Night

The weather couldn’t have been better yesterday afternoon, as the PHS Boys & Girls golf teams hosted the Union County Panthers & Lady Panthers at Bent Tree, for a Senior Night match. Prior to tee off, the PHS Golf team honored it’s three Seniors, Dylan Long, Chase Simmons, & Andy Weaver, for their hard work, and dedication to the team.

 

After all was said and done, & after all the scores were tallied, the Dragons came out on top with the win by a score of 171-229. The Dragonettes, played very well against a Lady Panther team that finished runner up in the state tournament last year.

 

The PHS Golf team will now get ready for the region tournament, as they will have practice rounds at Nob North Golf Course in Cohutta, on the 21st & 22nd. The 2-day 6-AAAA region tournament, will then start on the 23rd, & conclude on the 24th, at that very same golf course.

Pickens Golf Out-duels Gilmer On The Golf Course

It was a beautiful day for golf yesterday afternoon, as the PHS Boys & Girls Golf teams hosted the Gilmer Bobcats & Lady Cats golf teams at Bent Tree for a little rivalry action on the links.

 

After all the drives, the bunker saves, & putts were over with, Pickens came out on top with both Boys & Gilrs teams getting wins. Low rounds for both schools came on the Boys side of things. For Pickens, Dylan Long shot a 40, & for Gilmer, Collin Pfluger shot a 52.

 

These two teams will meet again this Tuesday in Ellijay as they take on Whitepath. Scheduled start time is at 4.

 

 

PHS Boys Golf Battles Cherokee, Rain To Claim Victory On Senior Night

This past Monday, the PHS Dragons Boys golf team, welcomed the Cherokee High School Boys golf team to Bent Tree for a late season match. This was also a chance for the Boys golf team of PHS to recognize their lone senior the on the team, Jordan VanSant, prior to tee off.

As for the match, it would be a close one as both teams had to deal with the elements as a steady rainfall came down as the groups were trying to finish. After all the scores were tallied, the PHS Boys came away with a 1 stroke victory over Cherokee 180-181 during the rain soaked match. With their final match of the regular season schedule now complete, both the Boys & Girls golf teams of Pickens will now prepare for the Area Tournaments. The Boys will have their practice round on the 23rd, & their tournament on the 24th. Both taking place at Highland Country Club. The Girls, will have their practice round on the 25th, & their tournament on the 26th. They will be competing at Oak Mountain. Good luck to both teams as they compete in their respective Area Tournaments looking to make it to State.

PHS Boys Golf Gets Win Over Sonoraville

Yesterday, the PHS Boys Golf team took on the Sonoraville Phoenix at Bent Tree Golf Club. In what started off as a drizzly afternoon, turned into a beautiful day for golf.

 

In what was a close match, the PHS Boys team came out on top over the Phoenix. Both boys & girls golf teams will take on Fannin & Lumpkin in a Tri-Match on Thursday as they get closer to the region tournament.

PHS Golf Seniors Get Win In Final Home Match

Earlier today, the PHS Golf team hosted the Sonoraville Phoenix at Bent Tree Golf Club. It was the final home match of the season for the PHS Golf team and it was also Senior Night as they honored Christopher Densmore, Logan Fountain, & Billy Reed.

 

The PHS Girls golf team won their match automatically as the Sonoraville Girls golf team did not make the trip, leaving both Boys teams to battle it out on the links. After each team got through their 9-hole round, The PHS Boys team came away with the win with a total score of 163-208. Jacob Brumby shot the low score on the day with a 39.

 

The PHS Girls team will have a practice round for the region tournament on the 13th of April at Indian Trace, followed by a match at Bent Tree with Creekview on the 14th of April at 4. The Boys will have their region practice round on April 15th, with the Tournament occurring on the 18th at LaFayette. The Girls side of the Tournament will take place on the 19th at Indian Trace. Both tee times are TBA at this time

 

 

PHS Golf Performs Well In Tri-Match Against Fannin & Lumpkin

Yesterday, the PHS Golf team hosted Fannin & Lumpkin in a Tri-Match at Bent Tree. This was the first home match for the golf team this season. Some golfers, were playing Bent Tree for the first time.

 

The boys varsity golf team did very well in their 9-hole tri-match as they defeated the Lumpkin Indians & Fannin Rebels with a score of 165-230-210.

 

The boys JV golf team also defeated the Lumpkin & Fannin JV teams with a score of 204-252-234.

 

The varsity girls golf team defeated the Fannin Lady Rebels with a score of 166-176, but were defeated narrowly by the Lumpkin Lady Indians with a score of 165-166.

 

The boys varsity golf team will be taking part in the Grizzly Classic this Saturday. It will be taking place at Woodmont and has a tee time of 1 p.m.
