Tuesday night offered two exciting games for the fans present at Pickens High School, as the Dragons and Dragonettes took on the Cedartown Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs.

The first matchup of the night, featuring the Nettes and the Lady Bulldogs, went from competitive to a blowout in no time at all.

The Dragonettes couldn’t miss on this night, as they led by seventeen after just one quarter and never slowed down, ultimately winning the game by a final score of 77-25.

Sophomore Sarah Smith led Pickens in both scoring and rebounding in the victory with seventeen points and nine rebounds. Three Dragonettes—Smith, junior Danielle Goss, and freshman Haley Kalson—finished the night with double digits in scoring, a testament to how complete a game the team played.

The meeting between the Dragons and Bulldogs that soon followed proved to be more competitive than the night’s opening game.

Pickens, led by excellent games from seniors Spencer Jones, Wesley Easterwood, and Austin Murphy, stayed within reach of the lead for most of the game, but the athleticism that the Bulldogs possessed gave them an advantage that only poor shot selections could disrupt.

Cedartown made nearly every possession count, often getting three to four good looks at a shot before taking what would quickly prove to be the best available opportunity for points. When the final buzzer sounded, the Bulldogs had won the game by a final score of 66-60.

Spencer Jones led the Dragons in scoring with sixteen points. Jones, along with Austin Murphy, led the team in rebounds with four each.

Friday night offers up a matchup between Pickens and the Gilmer Bobcats, the Dragons’ biggest rivals.
