The PCMS Dragonettes successfully defended their home court on Thursday, defeating the Fannin Lady Rebels in the 7th grade and 8th grade games.
The 7th grade girl’s team looked ready to completely demolish Fannin coming out of the gates, outscoring the Lady Rebels 17-1 in the opening quarter of a game that looked every bit like a blowout.
While Fannin was able to pick up the scoring as the game progressed, the Dragonettes never allowed the Lady Rebels to close the gap, ultimately winning by a final score of 35-22.
Autumn Young had an excellent game against the Lady Rebels, finishing the game with a total of seventeen points, three rebounds, six steals, and two blocks.
Following close behind were teammates Taylor Wiggington, who had nine points and four rebounds, and Mackenzie Hampton, who had five points and five rebounds.
The 8th grade game looked nearly identical to the first game in the first half, as the Dragonettes outscored the Lady Rebels 24-5 in the first two quarters.
However, Fannin wasn’t going to go down without a fight, going on a 13-4 run in the third quarter to cut the Dragonettes’ lead to 28-18. Good defense by Pickens in the final quarter of play preserved the win for the Nettes, this one by a final score of 31-24.
Shanel Macom showed up with her A-game in this one, finishing the game with eleven points, six rebounds, three steals, three blocks, and an assist. Autumn Young took advantage of her double-duty on the night, following Shanel close behind in scoring with seven points of her own.
The Dragonettes have just one game left in the regular season, as they travel to Ellijay to take on the Clear Creek Lady Cats on January 31st. The 7th grade game is set to start at 4:15.
