Margaret Ellen Anderson of Big Canoe, GA died November 16, 2012 at Hospice Atlanta after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Margaret was born September 26, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA to Dr. Thomas Jefferson Anderson, Jr. and Betty June Kilpatrick Anderson. She was raised in Atlanta, GA and graduated in 1968 from the Westminster Schools and in 1972 from Emory University. She then went on to receive her BSN and Masters in Nursing from Georgia State University. She worked as a clinical nurse specialist in gerontology in the Emory healthcare system and also worked for the Occupational Health Nurse’s Association. Margaret had a very strong faith and was active for many years at North Avenue Presbyterian Church in Atlanta and the Big Canoe Chapel.

In 2004, Margaret fulfilled a life-long wish of living in the mountains when she moved to Big Canoe, GA. She was active in the Big Canoe Chapel, Bella Voce, the Spare Parts, and several Bible studies. She made many wonderful friends who were unbelievably supportive of her throughout her battle with cancer. Many angels are part of the Big Canoe community. Margaret had a year of remission, which was one of the best years of her life. She reconnected with old friends, who were a blessing to her. Margaret’s family would especially like to thank Dee Stannard, Glenice Johnson, and Jo Beth Yarbrough.

Margaret is survived by her mother, Betty June Kilpatrick Anderson, sister Frances Anderson Beasley (David), brothers Thomas J. Anderson (Maggie) and William P. Anderson (Jan), all of Atlanta, and by nieces and nephews Margaret Brooke Beasley of Nashville, TN, Virginia A. Beasley of Atlanta, Catherine J. Anderson of Blacksburg, VA, Lauren K. Anderson of Boulder, CO, William K. Anderson of Atlanta, and Emma J. L. Anderson of Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the Big Canoe Chapel. There will be a reception immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Big Canoe Chapel or the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
