The city of Jasper City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting tonight. There were several topics of interest discussed including the recent storm damage to the city.Utility Development Planner Lonnie Waters stated that through August 9 the city sustained damages to the tune of $210,268.76. Repair costs included 400 tons of gravel, a pump house and dredging of a creek, among others. That figure was turned in to the county for submission to GEMA (Georgia Emergency Management Agency) and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) for consideration of disbursement of funds to offset the cost to the city. Mayor John Weaver estimated those repairs should be complete within a week.

Also discussed was the city’s donation of $6000.00 to JYSA (Jasper Youth Sports Association). There are 250 youths involved with the association. Part of the proceeds was raised through the mayor’s golf tournament held July 23, 2013.
