The Pickens Dragons and Dragonettes scrimmaged the Cherokee Warriors and Lady Warriors at Cherokee High School on Thursday, November 15th, giving the team teams a chance to get a feel for the upcoming season and to begin working toward getting even better. The Dragonettes opened the evening with their game against the Lady Warriors, which saw Pickens keep pace with Cherokee–including an impressive third quarter in which the Nettes posted fifteen points–but ultimately lose the game 45-37.

Leading the Dragonettes in scoring was Campbell commit Sarah Smith, who scored fourteen points. Smith also had four rebounds and a steal in the contest.
Following the girls’ varsity game came the matchup between the Warriors and a Dragons’ squad that had the disadvantage of playing just one day after the football players on the roster began practicing. Pickens fought hard to match Cherokee, but a slow start in the first half doomed the Dragons on this night. Cherokee would ultimately win the game by the final score of 57-26.

Clay Wigington led the Dragons in scoring on this night, posting seven points in the contest. Close behind Wigington was Dalton Bruce, who recorded six points as well as a team-high five rebounds.

The Dragons and Dragonettes open the 2013-2014 season on the road, as they travel to Dawsonville to take on the Dawson County Tigers and Lady Tigers. The girls’ game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. with the boys’ matchup starting after its conclusion.
