Chattanooga area football players are excited about playing Saturday Dec. 21 in the Georgia Dome as part of the all-day DL Scott Coalition Bowl Youth Championships and High School Junior and Senior All Star Games. Many of the Class of 2014 high school seniors from the area have been selected to play for the North team coached by North Murray’s David “Goo” Gann.

The North Georgia and Central Georgia stars play at 1:30, with East Metro Atlanta graduating seniors and West Metro Atlanta playing at 7:45 PM.

Coach Jamey Jones’ Scenic City Stars 10-under team from East Ridge, Tenn. is scheduled to play an East Metro Titans squad coached by event originator/sponsor, Dr. David L. Scott at noon.

The senior stars from Central Georgia, led by University of Georgia safety Trey Matthews, defeated the North stars 10-0 in the 2012 game.

In the 12-year-old game last December, the Calhoun Yellow Jackets defeated the East Ridge, Tenn. Mustangs 21-14 in a thriller.

The All-star game Saturday will again have a North squad made up of players from Catoosa, Walker, Dade, Whitfield, Gordon, Chattooga, Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens, Cherokee, Bartow, Floyd and Dawson counties against a Central squad that includes players from Carroll, Douglas, Coweta and Troup counties.

North Georgia defensive coordinator Cortnee Braswell said Sunday after watching practice in Chatsworth that he was impressed with the athleticism of the team.

“In the past few years I have coached in a lot of all-star games and this is by far the best looking group of athletes I’ve seen,” Braswell said.

Ringgold stars who helped carry the Tigers to the first semifinals appearance in school history headline the North stars.

Quarterback Slade Dale, DB Christian Plott, OLB Dakota Baer, OL Ryan Emmer and TE Dallas McGhee are representing Ringgold.

Dale, who is North Georgia’s answer to “Johnny Football,” has signed to play baseball at Georgia. Dale rushed for 1,186 yards and 19 touchdowns and passed for 1,665 yards and 17 TDs.

Ridgeland has three players, who helped lead the Panthers to the Class AAAA state title game, selected to play in the Dome. DL Jermaine Conyers, who has committed to Indiana, is joined by DB Dillon Peterman and RB Noah Cooper.

Other Chattanooga area players in the game are: LB Lyle Durham (Dalton), DB Mikey Williams (Dade County), DE Triston Evans (LFO), DB Jacob Gilbert (LFO), DL Isaiah Mack (Northwest Whitfield), CB Tevin McDanial (Northwest Whitfield), WR Andy Whisenant (Northwest Whitfield), OLB John Chastain (North Murray), OL Jordan Ray (North Murray), DE Jacob Mitchell (Gordon Central), OL Bret Peterson (Trion), WR Nich Bartley (Christian Heritage) and RB Tydus Curtis (Calhoun).

The veteran youth coach has had his former players participate in his All-star games and go on to play in college. He provides this event to give the student athletes in Georgia a showcase for their talents in an effort to increase scholarship opportunities.

In addition to its High School All-star games, the David L Scott Coalition Bowl is host to one of the country’s premier post season Youth Football Tournaments. The top youth football teams in Georgia (ages 6u, 8u, 10u, 12u) kick off at 8:00 AM with championship games in the Dome.
