From Pickens County Sheriff’s Office:
At this time, Pickens County Road Crews and Georgia DOT are working to treat the roads throughout Pickens County. They are focusing on the major roadways at this time. At this time, there are no road closures to report but several patches of ice have been detected on various roads.
Earlier today, Sheriff Craig and our staff participated in a conference call with the National Weather Service regarding the potential for severe weather. With the rapid drop in temperatures overnight combined with the moisture that is falling right now, we have a strong potential for black ice to form on the roadways.
We are encouraging everyone that does not have to be out on the roadway to stay at home. We are also wanting to warn everyone that they are predicting temperatures to be lower than they have been in two decades for North Georgia, causing very dangerous temperatures.
Beginning at 9:00 am, the Sheriff’s Auxiliary will be joining the Pickens County Government to open up a warming station for those that may not have adequate heat. The warming station will be located at the Pickens County Community Center located at 1329 Camp Road, Jasper Georgia.
