Featured Stories, Politics

My name is Delane Lewis and am asking to serve you as the District 5 representative for the Pickens Board of Education.I have been involved in Georgia public education as a student, parent and educator since 1952 when I started Kindergarten in the Atlanta Public System. I attended the University of Georgia where I earned both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education, and then a Specialist Degree from Georgia State University.

I have accumulated more than 22 years of experience in education as a classroom teacher and counselor and 18 years in the airline industry as a flight attendant, training instructor/developer and supervisor at Delta Air Lines.

My husband and I moved to Pickens County in 1999 when he retired from his pilot job at Delta. I retired from there in 2001, returned to school counseling for one year at Gainesville High School and then to Pickens High School from which I retired in 2009.

I have served on the boards for Prevent Child Abuse Pickens and the Jasper Optimist mentoring group and am an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family. I now work part time as a counselor at the Mountain Education Charter High ‘School.

I am seeking to serve on the Board of Education as a concerned, tax paying citizen with the background experience and positive attitude needed to navigate the rough times we continue to face both financially and conceptually. I think the most important role for any board representative is to communicate with all stakeholders. I would like to hear your concerns and ideas and to consider your input into the policies of our school system. I would appreciate your support.
