Mr. George Michael Lohman, age 72 of Jasper, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Georgia. Born November 3, 1941 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, George grew up in Pittsburg. He was the son of the late Francis Joseph Lohman and May Brocke Lohman. He was also preceded in death by a twin brother, Thomas Lohman.

George graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He was an All-American Football Player while in West Virginia and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame at West Virginia in October.

For most of his career, George was in marketing and sales in the Tea Industry. In the later part of his career, he went back to college and earned a degree in Computer Science. He went to work at Appalachian Technical College where he was an instructor. Mr. Lohman was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity.

George enjoyed many hobbies during his lifetime, including hunting, fishing, shooting, riding cutting horses competitively and watching the Pittsburg Steelers. He did all these things without letting his handicap get in his way. Upon his retirement, George looked forward to visits from his grandchildren and he and Margy enjoyed cruising all over the Caribbean.

Survivors include, his wife of 50 years, Margy Lohman of Jasper, GA, daughter & son-in-law; Kelsey and Eric Byers of Talking Rock, GA, sons & daughter-in-law; Michael and Judy Lohman of Jasper, GA, Marc Lohman of Jasper, GA, grandchildren; Chastity and Daniel Petty, Aaron Lohman, Elizabeth Lohman, Hannah Byers and Tyler Lohman, brother & sister-in-law; Fritz and Charlotte Lohman of Reno, Nevada and several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home, the Rev. Max Caylor will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, May 5, 3014.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Prevent Child Abuse, 1222 E. Church St., Jasper, Georgia 30143.
