Miriam Wright Kiser, a 5th generation native of Atlanta and for the past 27 years a resident of Tate Mountain in Pickens County, died from a brain tumor at home August 9, 2014. Miriam lived a full, creative life. She had a deep appreciation for the natural world, an exquisite sense of humor and was remarkably accepting of others. Life with her as wife, mother, grandmother, relative or friend was fun.

She grew up in Atlanta, the 5th child of Douglas Berry and Gertrude Whittier Wright. She attended E. Rivers School and Washington Seminary there, St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines in Asheville N.C., Wesleyan Conservatory in Macon and Atlanta’s High Museum of Art.

Miriam was a member and Past President of the Habersham Garden Club, a member of Altar and Flower Guilds at Holy Family Episcopal Church in Jasper, a member of the Mountain Conservation Trust, former member of St. Philips Cathedral, and Atlanta Junior League. Miriam served as a firefighter with the Grandview Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include husband of 63 years, John Finley Kiser; children Mimi Kiser, W. Howell (Betsy) Kiser, Peggy Davis, Libba (Bill) Shortridge, Martha (Michael) Ruiz, John (Stephanie) Kiser Jr.;13 Grandchildren; a sister Emily (Joe) Cumming, two brothers Whittier Wright and Jim (Emily) Wright; three sisters-in-law Mary Semmes Wright, Martha Wayt, Margaret (Bill) Wetmore; and 24 nieces and nephews.

The family extends special thanks to her recent caregivers Louise Tribble, Donna Autry, Angela Foreman, Julia Crowder, and many others.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday August 16th at Holy Family Episcopal Church in Jasper, GA and reception there following the service.
