Dragon's Corner, Featured Stories, Team FYN Sports December 15, 2014 , by RJ Casey
The Dragons varsity basketball team hosted the Bobcats of Gilmer in the Dragons Den for a region 7AAAA battle. Pickens, coming off of an incredible comeback against Heritage on Tuesday, looked to keep the momentum going against their rivals to the north. Dragon Nation would have a lot to cheer about Friday evening.
The first quarter opened in a similar way as the girls game with both teams searching for consistency. The Dragons got out front to end the quarter with the 15-9 lead. Pickens would use a combination of both sides of the ball to outscore Gilmer in the second quarter, 23-15 to take a 38-24 lead into the locker room. Coming out for the third quarter, the Dragons were able to maintain the lead after outscoring the Bobcats 19-12 to hold a 57-36 advantage going to the fourth. Gilmer made a mini run in the final quarter of the ball game outscoring Pickens, 18-11, but the Dragons closed it out and got the win, 68-54.
The Dragons are now 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in region play
