Nettes Lose Tough Game To Lady Tigers

Last Saturday, the Nettes varsity basketball team traveled to Dawson County to take on the Lady Tigers in non region action. Pickens, coming off of a tough defeat at the hands of their rivals the Lady Cats of Gilmer, had to block that out and focus on a good team in Dawson not even 24 hours later. This would be the 2nd game in a home and home series between these two teams.The Lady Tigers jumped out early on in the opening quarter holding a 15-4 lead heading to the second quarter. The Nettes found more offense in the second quarter but Dawson outscored Pickens 23-20 to take a halftime lead of 38-24. The Lady Tigers would continue their scoring pace as they outscored the Nettes in the third 16-10, to take a 54-34 lead headed to the final quarter of play. Dawson led throughout this one and came away with the 71-40 victory.
Pickens is now 4-5 on the season and 2-1 in region play
Leading the way for the Nettes Saturday were:
Haley Kalson: 13 points and 1 steal
Taylor Wigington: 12 points, 2 assists, and 6 rebounds
Ashley Nelson: 7 points, and 1 rebound
Autumn Young: 5 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal
Makayla Payne: 3 points, 5 assists, and 10 rebounds
Paula Pickett and Kaitlin Redman grabbed 4 rebounds each
A busy week for the Nettes starts Tuesday evening as they host the Lady Bruins of Northwest Whitfield in 7AAAA action. Tip off for that one is scheduled for 6 pm.
