Dragons Win Streak Snapped At Four By The Bruins

Last night, the Dragons varsity basketball team came back home to the Dragons Den to take on the Bruins of Northwest Whitfield in 7AAAA action. Pickens came into the ball game riding a four game win streak and looked to continue their impressive play Tuesday evening and collect their third region win.

There would be a lot of scoring in the first quarter as both teams were on fire offensively to start the ball game. The Dragons came away with the lead headed to the second quarter, 21-18. The Bruins came back in the second quarter and were able to take the halftime lead 39-36 after outscoring Pickens 21-15. The Dragons came out and got back on track in the third quarter and took back the lead from Northwest Whitfield after a 24-18 run to gain control headed to the fourth, 60-57. In a fourth quarter that came down to free throws, the Bruins were able to make the key ones and outscore Pickens 25-20 to escape the Dragons Den with a 82-80 victory snapping the Dragons four game win streak.

Pickens is now 7-3 on the season and 2-2 in region play

Leading the way for the Dragons Tuesday were:

Shannon Brooks: 27 points, 5 assists, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals

Clay Wigington: 18 points, 2 assists, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals

Trent Rizoti: 12 points, and 7 rebounds

Holden Roop: 8 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound, and 1 steal

Walker Lawrence: 8 points, and 2 rebounds

Travis Huffman added 5 points, grabbed 3 boards, and swiped 2 steals

The Dragons now have to turn their attention to Thursday evening when they travel to Cartersville to take on the Purple Hurricanes in 7AAAA action. Tip off is scheduled for 6:30 pm. Pickens then will travel to Hall County on Saturday evening to take on the Spartans of West Hall in non region play. That game is scheduled to start at 8:30.
