Yesterday, the Dragons varsity basketball team traveled to take on the Purple Hurricanes of Cartersville in 7AAAA region play. This was the make up to a game that had to be rescheduled due to the football team of Cartersville hosting Buford in a AAAA semi-final game. And just like on the gridiron, this one was very physical.

The first quarter was very run oriented as both teams found success offensively. The Canes however would take a 16-14 lead into the second quarter. The second quarter was almost a repeat of the first quarter as both teams again had their share of runs. The Dragons went on to win the quarter, 11-9, to tie things up at 25 going to the half.

The third quarter story for the Dragons would be a similar one as the ‘Nettes third quarter. Cartersville took advantage of several Pickens miscues and after a 17-11 third, took the lead 42-36 going to the fourth. The Dragons attempted a comeback but fell short as the Canes used a 20-12 quarter to seal the win, 62-48. Pickens is now 7-4 on the season and 2-3 in region play.
