Nettes Lose Tough Game To Bitter Rival Lady Cats

Friday, the Dragonettes made the trip up 515 to take on the Lady Cats of Gilmer High School in a big 7AAAA region matchup. Pickens, came into the ball game third in the region standings while Gilmer came in tied with Northwest Whitfield at the top of the standings.The first quarter started off with the Lady Cats scoring the first four points of the game until the Nettes got on the board. It was back and forth after that as Gilmer held the first quarter lead, 16-15. The second quarter saw more back and forth fast paced action as the Lady Cats outscored the Nettes 10-8 to take a 26-23 lead into halftime.

In the third, Gilmer outscored Pickens 18-12, to extend their lead to 44-35 heading to the fourth and final quarter. The Nettes were unable to claw their way back as the Lady Cats outscored them in the fourth, 12-6, to get the win, 56-41. Pickens is now 10-12 on the season and 6-5 in region play.

Mackenzie Hampton: 8 points, and 4 rebounds

Makayla Payne: 6 points, 1 assist, and 1 rebound

Haley Kalson: 5 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals

Autumn Young: 5 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, and a steal

Taylor Wigington: 5 points, and a rebound

Pickens will be in a big road region match up on Tuesday evening against the Lady Bruins of Northwest Whitfield. Northwest is tied atop the region standings with Gilmer at 10-1 while the Nettes are tied with Heritage for third at 6-5. Tip off is scheduled for 6 pm.
