Team FYN Sports November 19, 2015
Tyler Garner is a 6’4″ 235lb third and first baseman for the Pickens Dragons and with Game On Baseball (Travel Team) out of Columbus, GA. Tyler has been playing baseball since he was four years old. He started playing travel ball at the age of nine with Coach Fitzgerald. He is in his final year at Pickens and has signed with the University of West Georgia. Garner had a great 2014 season with a .359 batting avg. with 78 at-bats. He finished the 2014 season with 11 runs and two home runs on 28 hits with a .538 slugging, .390 on-base and a .966 fielding percentages. He is the son of John and Debbie Garner. Garners’ first year travel ball coach Bradley Fitzgerald, Asst. Principal Harold Culbreth and Coach Chris Parker was also in attendance.
The University of West Georgia was a no-brainer for Tyler. He said it was close to home, but not to close and he loved both the atmosphere of the campus and his new coaches. Tyler will be playing third base and is hoping to get some pitching in while at school. I asked Tyler about his four years at Pickens and how it made him a better player. He said “My sophomore year i was playing on varsity and their were several players better than me and it sparked me to try harder and work harder.”
Tyler will be attending the University of West Georgia next fall where he will be majoring in Sports Management. He hopes to be playing at the next level after school, but either way, he will coach baseball one day.
Fetchyournews and TeamFYNSports would like to congratulate Tyler and his family on this tremendous achievement. We look forward to hearing about all the great things your sure to do.
