Dement Signs with Gordon State

Pickens High School senior Angela Dement has put her name on the dotted line to play college softball for Gordon State College.

Dement signed to play for the Highlanders last Friday in the Old Performing Arts Center at Pickens High School, surrounded by family, friends and teammates. She has played softball since her park and recreation days, before working her way through the middle school and high school levels. In addition to playing for the Dragonettes, Dement also played on travel softball teams. Still, she is optimistic about the next chapter of her career.

“I’m very, very excited to start my next softball season,” Dement said. “I’d like to thank my mom and dad, my grandparents and my sister (for their support).”

Before signing with Gordon State, Dement was also looked at by Georgia Perimeter College. However, a sense of comfortable surroundings held her pick Gordon State.

“I like being in the small town of Jasper, and Barnesville (location of Gordon State College) is small, so I really liked that,” Dement said.

Gordon State College is the home of the Highlanders, which play in the National Junior College Athletic Association, as a member of the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.
