Georgia Mountains Hospice Volunteer of the month is Maureen Atkins. Maureen has been a GMH volunteer since 2005. She helps with events and clerical projects.

Maureen was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. Her grandparents settled there during the gold rush. She has 3 brothers,  the youngest is a Supreme Court Justice for Alaska.

Maureen has lived in Georgia 43 years, the last 16 in Jasper. She is a retired middle school bookkeeper/secretary. She and her husband Mark have 4 children, all living in the Atlanta area; eight grandchildren and a fabulous 5 month old great grandson.

Maureen also belongs to First Mountain City Quilters Guild, Bent Tree Knitwits, Bent Tree Ladies Golf Association and she plays hand bells at Jasper United Methodist Church.
