Dear citizens of Pickens County,
I am Katherine White and I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Pickens County School District Board of Education, Post 1. I have been a resident of Pickens County for almost 14 years and I have children who attend Hill City Elementary School and Jasper Middle School. I have taught elementary school for 14 years and have been nominated for Teacher of the Year numerous times. I have held numerous leadership positions within the school, including serving on the Administration team as a Grade Level Chair, New Teacher Mentor, and Professional Learning Community Coach. I believe my classroom and educational leadership experience have prepared me for any challenge our school district may face.

Our public schools are the backbone of our community, the wellspring of our democracy, and the best means we have of providing a better future for all our children. There has never been a time when the challenges to all of our nation’s schools have been greater. I will help Pickens County meet these challenges by serving on the Board of Education.

This community deserves a school board that will invite you to the table, meet you with transparency and honesty, and represent your interests. Our children deserve a standard of education that will allow them to succeed. Our taxpayers deserve to have their money allocated fairly and responsibly without undue burden. I am asking you, my friends and neighbors, for a chance to do my part.

So what will I work for in our community? I will work to ensure we continue to offer a good solid public education for every student, no matter if they are on track to attend our local vocational college or a university across the state. I will work for more opportunities for our students to continue a well-rounded education including music and art. I want to ensure our students graduate Pickens County schools ready to take on the challenges of their next phase in life. I will look for ways to make our teachers feel more valued and respected. I want to make sure we are fiscally responsible and our money is spent wisely on what is best for our community. Simply put, I want what is best for our children, our teachers, and our community.
