Robert James “Jim” Dorsey, age 73, of Jasper passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp and then became a teacher. He coached baseball at the high school and college levels. He won two state championships and was a scout for the Atlanta Braves.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bo and Kelly Dorsey of Ellijay; daughter, Melinda Goss of Jasper; mother, Geneva Dorsey of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, John Douglas and Pam Dorsey of Jasper; grandchildren, John Daniel Dorsey of Ellijay, Kerri Lee Dorsey of Ellijay, Lindsey Brook Logan of Jasper, John Taylor Logan of Jasper and his fiancé, Allie Wilson; niece, Tuesday and Craig Hammontree of Jasper; and great nephew, Sam Hammontree of Jasper.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Dorsey and his father, J. B. “Shorty” Dorsey.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 19 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Terry Fleeman officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., and until the funeral hour on Thursday.

The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the Pickens High Diamond Club (PO Box 275; Jasper, GA 30143) in Jim’s name.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory in Jasper.
