Mr. Donald Eugene Hammontree, age 82, of Jasper passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at his home. He was born April 13, 1934 to William Nelson and Katie Prather Hammontree in Jasper. He was a member of Refuge Baptist Church and Pickens Star Lodge #220.

Donald is survived by his wife, Helon Hammontree of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Roger Weldy of Jasper; grandchildren, Stephanie and Shane Duncan of Jasper, Mandy and Nick Stewart of Jasper, Scotty and Tonya Hammontree of Jasper, great-grandchildren, Isaiah Roberts, Piper Duncan, Jack Jarrett, Willow Duncan, Lily Hammontree, Danny Hammontree, Turner Stewart; and sister, Grace Fronebarger. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. He was preceded in death by his son, Danny L. Hammontree.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2017 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Edwin Weaver and Reverend Johnny McPherson officiating. Interment will follow at Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday at Roper Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
