Pickens Schools employee tests positive for COVID-19

Community, News

Pickens County School District was notified today that an employee of the district received a positive
diagnosis for COVID-19. The employee participated in a voluntary testing opportunity at a drive-thru
testing site last week even though they had no symptoms at the time of the test nor do they have any
symptoms currently.

The employee who tested positive works for the transportation department and drove the bus to Tate
Elementary School to assist with distributing meals. The individual was wearing a mask and gloves per
our district protocol while distributing food to families.

This individual also attended graduation as a guest last Wednesday and school administration has
reached out to families who were present at similar times. Due to procedures and protocols in place,
health officials do not feel there are any immediate health concerns for guests.

Out of an abundance of caution and in adherence with CDC and the Department of Public Health (DPH)
guidelines, employees who were in direct contact for longer than 10 minutes are quarantining
themselves and monitoring for symptoms.

The district will remain transparent with our families and we will continue to take necessary precautions
in order to maintain the health and safety of our students, their families, and our staff. If you have
questions or concerns about your health, contact your medical provider or the local health department.
Also, the DPH COVID-19 hotline number is (844) 442-2681.
