Nettes rebound with big road win at West Hall
PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports January 17, 2024Oakwood, Ga — After a tough loss to Wesleyan, the 24th ranked team in the nation, on Friday, January 12th, the Pickens Dragonettes looked to get back to their winning ways as they took to the road to face the West Hall Lady Spartans in 7-AAA action. This game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 16th, but the weather caused it to be moved a day. The Nettes, saw a total team effort in this one as they picked up a 92-12 win.
The first quarter began with the Nettes going on a massive 33-0 run. Caroline Mullins, Ellison Steinhauer, Reagan Ludington, Bella Hopkins, and Brylee Deering all contributed to the run. Summer Orlick, got the Lady Spartans on the board with a basket. Mullins, ended the first quarter scoring with a layup to make it 35-2 Nettes going to the second quarter.
The Nettes, started the second quarter with another big run as they went on a 19-0 run to stretch the lead out to 54-2. Ellison and Emery Steinhauer, Deering, Hopkins, and Mullins contributed to this run. After a three pointer by the Lady Spartans, Caleigh Hoffard, worked her way inside for a layup to make it 56-5. Yatsar Matos, answered with a layup of her own to make it 56-7. The Nettes, would then score three straight points as Hoffard split a pair of free throws, and Ludington scored on a layup to make it 59-7.
Heidi Zuniga, would split a pair of free throws to close out the first half as the Nettes led the Lady Spartans, 59-8 at the break.
The Nettes, began the third quarter with an 11-0 run as the Steinhauer sisters and a returning Ellie Hollis got in on the action to make it 70-8. After a basket by Cayla Radich, Hopkins would split a pair of free throws and hit a three to close out the third quarter with the Nettes leading, 74-10.
Hopkins, continued her run to start the fourth quarter as she would in total go on a 9-0 run. The Nettes, would altogether go on a 15-0 run as Ludington and Emery Steinhauer joined Hopkins during the run. After a bucket by the Lady Spartans ended that run, the Nettes closed out the game on a 7-0 run as they pick up the win, 92-12.

The Nettes, will be back home on Friday, January 19th as they host their rivals, the Gilmer Lady Cats. The Nettes, took round one back on December 5th in Ellijay. Tip time for round two is set for 7 pm.
