OVERLOOK WILDFIRE UPDATE

PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. – A brush fire in Pickens County has left as least 40 acres scorched as it continues to burn.

Pickens County Fire crews continue to remain on scene to contain the wildfire at the Overlook.

It was reported that ‘as of approximately 7:45 p.m., the fire is 95% contained.’

“Around 1:30 p.m.  today, Pickens Fire crews worked hard to control the head of the fire and protect homes awaiting the arrival of Georgia Forestry. Forestry brought in crews from Gilmer and Lumpkin along with a 12-man ground crew from the U.S. Fire Service,”  according to Pickens County Fire and Rescue.

Luckily, so far, there has been no report of loss to any homes or property or injuries to civilians or firefighters.

“Responding units were Pickens Fire Engine-10, Tender 10 (Wildcat Volunteers), Engine-13, Tender 13 (Grandview Volunteers), Engine 50, Med-5, Engine 11, Battalion 11, 1100, Georgia Forestry, U.S. Fire Service and two Helicopters from Helicopter Express used for water drops. Forest Fire crews will remain on scene for several more hours to ensure the fire is no longer a threat.”
