Mr. John R. “Johnny” Vickers, Sr., age 82, of Talking Rock, Georgia, died Saturday, February 18, 2012, at the Heritage Health Care in Jasper, Georgia, following a period of declining health.
Born January 10, 1930 in Moultrie, Georgia, he was the son of the late Leonard Butler Vickers and Maeola Virginia Mock Vickers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Leavern Reavis Vickers, and a daughter, Kay Leavern West. Mr. Vickers had served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a flight line mechanic at Lockheed in Marietta. Mr. Vickers was a member of the Pickens Star Masonic Lodge # 220, was an ordained Minister and was a member and deacon of Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include, Daughters, Gale Connelly (Randy) of Talking Rock, Ga.; Joy Burnette (Steve) of Talking Rock, Ga.; Son, Randy Vickers (Candy) of Holly Springs, Ga.; Son-In-Law, Ronnie West; 12 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren; Brother, Rayford Vickers (Tillie) of Flowery Branch, Ga.; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at the Antioch Baptist Church, the Rev. Moss Fountain, Rev. Gene Childers will officiate, with the interment to follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites by the Pickens Star Masonic Lodge # 220.
The family will receive friends at the Roper Funeral Home, 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday and until the funeral hour on Tuesday.
