The Pickens High School cross country team held its annual end of the year banquet. The team celebrated two top ten finishes in the state AAAA meet; with the girls placing fifth overall (1:49:45.17), and the boys placing sixth overall (1:30:20.29).

The annual “Black Friday” sales event began at exactly 8pm Thursday at the Wal-mart in Jasper. Shoppers were in a ferocious frenzy to take advantage of the “Black Friday Deals.” A mere few hours after many had eaten and given thanks, people pushed and shoved each other in pursuit of purchases.

The Jasper Middle School and Pickens County Middle School Dragonettes and Dragons basketball teams met in the Pickens High School Gym. The teams win 2-2 on the day, with Jasper winning the 7th grade girls’ and 8th grade boys’ games, and Pickens winning the 7th grade boys and 8th grade girls’ games.

The Pickens High School Dragonettes softball team hosted the River Ridge Knights on the annual “Senior Night.” While the junior varsity “Nettes” managed a 6-0 shut out win, the varsity fell 9-3. The four seniors, honored post game, were: Hillary Wheeler; Kennedy McTaggart; Daniel Goss; and MaryJo Childers.

The Pickens High School Dragonettes softball team hosted the Lady Bobcats of Gilmer High School. Despite taking a two run lead, 3-1, into the fifth inning, the Dragonettes fell to the region rival 4-3. The loss meant a sweep on the day for the visitors, as the junior varsity “Nettes” fell 8-3.

The Pickens High School Dragons football team kicked off the 2012 season, the inaugural PHS campaign for new head coach Chris Parker, with a fire breathing 50-21 crushing of the Sonoraville Phoenix. The Dragons kept the Phoenix from rising, with a 36-7 halftime lead, before finishing with the 50-21 win.
