‘Nettes Fall In Overtime To Chestatee, Travel To Southeast Whitfield Tomorrow

On Saturday afternoon, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team welcomed the Chestatee Lady War Eagles to the Dragons Den for a non-region tilt. Saturday, was also special because it was Senior Night. The last time these two teams met, it was at the very start of the season, & Pickens, came away with a close victory.

 

This ball game started out slow for both teams as buckets would be tough to come by in this opening frame. Both squads finally got things going towards the end of the first as the Lady War Eagles took a 9-4 lead over the ‘Nettes going to the 2nd. Pickens, would pull momentum over to their side in the the 2nd as they would use a 10-4 quarter advantage to take the lead heading into the half, 14-13.

 

In the 3rd, their was much more scoring as both teams finally found something that worked for them. An 18-11 quarter run gave Pickens a 32-24 lead over Chestatee going to the 4th. In the 4th, the Lady War Eagles used a 17-9 run to tie things up with the ‘Nettes at 41, to send us to overtime. In the extra period, Chestatee outscored Pickens 8-4, as a desperation three as time expired would not fall for the ‘Nettes as the Lady War Eagles took this one, 48-45.

 

Leading the way for the ‘Nettes were:

Torie Williams: 14 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, & 2 steals

Mackenzie Hampton: 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, & 1 block

Mykenzie Weaver: 11 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal

Shelby Cook: 8 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, & 1 block

 

Pickens, will be on the road tomorrow as they head to Dalton to take on the Lady Raiders of Southeast Whitfield in their final 6-AAAA region game of the regular season. Tip off is scheduled for 6 pm.

‘Nettes Get 4 In Double Figures In Win At Ridgeland, Host Chestatee For Senior Day

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team made the long trip to Rossville, Ga to take on the Ridgeland Lady Panthers. The ‘Nettes, came into the game still buzzing after sweeping the Heritage Lady Generals on Tuesday, and looked to continue their momentum against the Lady Panthers.

 

In the first, it would be a slow start initially, but picked up as the quarter went on. Pickens, gathered a 16-9 lead over Ridgeland going to the 2nd. In the 2nd, the ‘Nettes offense found more consistency, and it reflected on the scoreboard. Using a 21-15 quarter run, Pickens took a 37-24 lead over the Lady Panthers heading into the break.

 

The second half, would belong to the road team in green. The ‘Nettes, would turn it up on both sides of the ball in the 3rd, to increase their lead over Ridgeland. Using a 22-6 quarter advantage, Pickens, held a 59-30 lead over the Lady Panthers going to the 4th. In the 4th, as was the case for most of the 2nd half, the younger girls got in and played very well for Pickens. The ‘Nettes, closed things out using an 18-12 run, to get the win, 77-42, over Ridgeland.

Mykenzie Weaver: 14 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, & 2 steals

Torie Williams: 12 points, 3 assists, & 2 rebounds

Chloe Walker: 11 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, & 1 block

Mackenzie Hampton: 9 points, 7 assists, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, & 2 blocks

Sarah Morris: 6 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal

Allie Stephens: 5 points, 7 assists, 2 rebounds, & 2 steals

Hattie Baker: 2 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound,  2 steals, & 1 block

Reagan Hardwood: 2 points, & 2 rebounds

Kealy Hillhouse: 2 points, 1 assist, & 1 rebound

 

The ‘Nettes, will now turn their attention to this afternoon as they host the Chestatee Lady War Eagles for Senior Day. This game, is a make up as the originally scheduled game got postponed due to weather. Tip off, is scheduled for 3 pm.
