Nettes split with Lady Tigers to end regular season

Jasper, Ga — On Friday, February 7th, the Pickens Dragonettes, welcomed the Dawson Lady Tigers to the Dragons Den for the finale to the ’24-’25 regular season. Coming into the game, the Nettes, were 21-2 and 12-1 in 6-AAA play. The Lady Tigers, came into the game at 15-9 and 8-5 in 6-AAA play. The Nettes, were looking to even up the season series after the Lady Tigers took the first meeting on January 14th. Even up the series they did as the Nettes picked up the win, 67-34.

Eva Bishop, would give the Lady Tigers an early 2-0 lead after a jumper. Bella Martin, would respond by going on a 5-0 run to give the Nettes a 5-2 lead. Bishop, would end the run and cut the lead to one after a layup. Reagan Ludington and Ellison Steinhauer, would then make back to back buckets to give the Nettes a 9-4 lead. Maddie Siuta, would hit a three to cut the lead down to two.

After Ludington and Bishop traded baskets, Steinhauer, would close out the first quarter by going on a 5-0 run. Included in that run, was a running three pointer as the clock expired. Heading to the second quarter, the Nettes, led the Lasy Tigers, 16-9.

Steinhauer, would continue her run to begin the second quarter as she would score the first five points of the frame to stretch the Nettes lead out to 21-9. A three by Siuta, would end the run and cut the lead down to 21-12. Steinhauer and Tania Rivera, would then hit back to back threes to make it 27-12. The two teams would trade buckets for the remainder of the first half as the Nettes led the Lady Tigers, 33-19 at the break.

Martin and Steinhauer, would pen the second half with back to back baskets to make it 37-19. Rielyn Talley, would hit a three to cut the lead to 37-22. After Ellie Hollis made a pair of free throws, Bishop, would make a layup to cut the lead to 39-24. A 5-0 run by Ludington and Martin, would extend the lead to 44-24. After Bishop split a pair of free throws, Steinhauer and Hollis would end the quarter on a 7-0 run as the Nettes led the Lady Tigers, 51-25.

Addison Smith, got the fourth quarter going with a bucket to make it 51-27. Kylee Bozeman, would respond with a three to make it 54-27. After a bit of a back and forth, Steinhauer and Rivera, would combine for a 7-0 run to make it 63-31. A basket by Bishop, would put an end to the run and make it 63-33. Steinhauer, would then hit a three, and Skyler Lathem, would split a pair of free throws to make it 67-33.

Kadence Rhodes, would split a pair of late free throws as the Nettes, would pick up the win in the regular season finale, 67-34.

All of the games for the 6-AAA Region Tournament will be played at Pickens High School. Quarterfinal games for the girls side will begin on Tuesday, February 11th. The Nettes, will take on the Johnson-Gainesville Lady Knights at 8:30 pm.

Nettes sweep Johnson on Senior Night

Jasper, Ga — On Tuesday, February 4th, the Pickens Dragonettes, welcomed the Lady Knights of Johnson to the Dragons Den for the second to last region game of the regular season. It was a special night for the Nettes as it was Senior Night. The three Seniors, Brylee Deering, Ellie Hollis, and Bella Martin, would all be recognized for their contributions during their time at Pickens High School. As for the game, the Nettes, would run their win streak up to 6 games as they defeated the Lady Knights, 70-18.

Martin, would start the game off quickly with a three to make it 3-0. That would help spark a 14-0 run to open the first quarter as Martin, Hollis, and Reagan Ludington all contributed to the run. A layup by Karina Ordonez, would put an end to the run and make it 14-2. After a three by Ludington, Harbor Landers would split a pair of free throws to make it 17-3.

The Nettes, would end the first quarter on a 6-0 run as Bree Jewell and Ellison Steinhauer, would hit back to back threes to make it 23-3 going to the second quarter.

The Nettes, would carry over that run to begin the second quarter as Steinhauer, Martin, and Skyler Lathem, would combine to score the first 10 points of the period to stretch the lead out to 33-3. Another layup by Ordonez, would put an end to the run and make it 33-5. The Nettes, would close out the first half on a 10-0 run as Martin would score 4 points, and Ruby Flatt would hit two threes to make it 43-5 at the half.

A bucket by Steinhauer, and a three by Martin, would get the third quarter going as the Nettes led it, 48-5. After a basket by Landers, Steinhauer and Hollis would make back to back buckets to make it 52-7. After Emily Hernandez got her first points of the game, Hollis, Ludington, and Jewell would combine to go on a 7-0 run to make it 59-9. Hernandez, would end the run with a three to make it 59-12.

Jewell, would close out the third quarter by going on a 5-0 run to give the Nettes a 64-12 lead over the Lady Knights heading to the fourth quarter.

Landers, started the shortened fourth quarter with a three. That would begin a 6-0 run for the Lady Knights as that made it 64-18. Flatt and Jewell, would end the run by hitting back to back threes as the Nettes would pick up the 70-18 win on Senior Night.

With the seeding and match ups for the 6-AAA region tournament next week pretty much set, the Nettes, will turn their attention to the final regular season game of the season as they host the Dawson Lady Tigers on Friday, February 7th. Tip off is set for 6 pm.

Nettes sweep Lady Warriors to clinch #1 seed

Jasper, Ga — It was a rainy Friday night on January 31st as the Pickens Dragonettes, took on the White County Lady Warriors in a massive match up in 6-AAA. The Nettes, came into the game 19-2 overall and 10-1 in region play. The Lady Warriors, came into the game 17-5 overall and 9-2 overall. A win for the Nettes, would give them the #1 seed in the upcoming 6-AAA region tournament. A loss for the Nettes, would make them GAC fans on Tuesday. A clutch three by Bella Martin, would seal a big time win for the Nettes, 54-48.

After an early foul call on the Lady Warriors, Ellison Steinhauer would get the scoring started with a bucket to give the Nettes a 2-0 lead. A three pointer by Kylie Watkins, would give the Lady Warriors a 3-2 lead. Ellie Hollis, would then split a pair of free throws to tie the game at 3. Emma Lightsey, would go on a 5-0 run to give the Lady Warriors an 8-3 lead.

After Bella Martin and Kylie Watkins traded three point baskets, Steinhauer and Bree Jewell would end the first quarter by going on a 4-0 run. The Lady Warriors, would lead it, 11-10, heading to the second quarter.

Both teams would come out firing in the second quarter as they would go back and forth matching bucket for bucket. A layup by Steinhauer, would give the Nettes a 21-19 lead. The Lady Warriors, would then go on a 7-0 run to retake the lead, 26-21. The Nettes, would close out the first half with an 8-0 run as Steinhauer, Martin, and Ellie Hollis, would combine to give the Nettes a 29-26 lead at the break.

A basket by Steinhauer would begin the second half as she would stretch the lead out to 5. Kylie Watkins, would then get the layup through contact and complete the and-1 to cut the lead down to 2. Brylee Deering, would come away with the steal and score to make it a 4 point game. Steinhauer, would then hit a three to make it 36-29. After a bit of a back and forth, the Lady Warriors would end the third on a 4-0 run as the Nettes led it, 43-36.

A three pointer by Kylie Watkins would get things going in the fourth as she would cut the lead down to 4. A bucket by Steinhauer, would push the lead back to 6. Lightsey and Steinhauer, would then trade three point baskets as the Nettes continued to lead, 48-42. Later on in the quarter, Watkins, would cut the lead to 4 with a layup. The Lady Warriors, would then get a steal, but miss a layup attempt that would have cut the lead to 2.

After a couple of fouls, Martin, would line up a three at the top of the key and nail it to put the Nettes up 53-46. Steinhauer, would then split a pair of free throws to make it 54-46. Aslyn Burkett, would make a pair of late free throws as the Nettes would come away with the bug 54-48 win.

With the win, the Nettes have clinched the #1 seed in the 6-AAA region tournament. The tournament will begin on Tuesday, February 11th. Before we get to that though, the Nettes, will be back home on Tuesday, February 4th as they take on the Johnson-Gainesville Lady Knights in 6-AAA action. It’ll be a fun night as the Seniors will be honored. Tip off is set for 6 pm.

Nettes move to 13-1 after another comeback win

Jasper, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes, were finally back home after a few weeks as they welcomed the Coahulla Creek Lady Colts to the Dragons Den on Saturday, January 4th for the first home game of 2025. The Nettes, were coming off a come from behind region win at White County the night before. The Nettes, came into the game at 12-1 overall and 4-0 in 6-AAA. The Lady Colts, came into the game at 9-4 overall and 3-4 in 7-AA. Trailing by three heading into the fourth quarter, the Nettes, used a 13-0 fourth quarter run to pick up a 43-33 win.

The Lady Colts, would start the scoring to begin the first quarter as Annie Reed would drive into the lane and finish with a layup. Brylee Deering, would then hit a long jumper to tie it up at 2. A bucket by Reed, and a free throw make by Aubree Langley, would give the Lady Colts a 5-2 lead. A basket by Ellison Steinhauer, would cut the lead down to 5-4. Both teams, would trade buckets for the rest of the quarter as the Lady Colts led it, 11-8.

A pair of free throws by Greenlee Lumpkin, would start the scoring in the second quarter as the Lady Colts would stretch their lead out to 13-8. A basket by Steinhauer, would cut the lead back down to three. Lumpkin, would then bank in a three pointer to make it 16-10. After Deering split a pair of free throws, the Lady Colts, would go on a 7-0 run to make it 23-11. The Nettes, who were finding it hard to get some consistency on offense, ended the first half on a 10-2 run to cut the lead down to 25-21 heading to the break.

Steinhauer, who was a big part of the run to close out the first half, would score 4 straight points to begin the second half to tie the game at 25. A basket by Kayden Stuckey, would end the run and give the Lady Colts the lead back. A three pointer by Tania Rivera, would start a 5-0 run by the Nettes, and give them their first lead of the game at 30-27. The Lady Colts, would end the third quarter on a 6-0 run to make it 33-30 heading to the fourth.

The fourth quarter, belonged to the Nettes as they would turn up the intensity on both the offensive and defensive ends. The Nettes, would hold the Lady Colts scoreless, while scoring 13 straight points to help pull away. For the second consecutive game, the Nettes, pick up a win in comeback fashion as they defeat the Coahulla Lady Colts, 43-33.
