Nettes fall to Lady Warriors on the road

Cleveland, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes, began a three game road trip on Friday, February 6th as they made the trip to take on the White County Lady Warriors. The Nettes, came into the game winners of five straight, and were looking to complete the in season sweep against the Lady Warriors. In what was a tough night all around for the road team, the Lady Warriors, were able to pick up a 36-18 win.

 

A 5-0 run by Kalynn Watkins to begin the game, would give the Lady Warriors an early lead. A running jumper by Ellison Steinhauer, would get the Nettes on the board and cut the lead to three. The Lady Warriors, would end the first quarter on a 7-0 run powered by Ella Kate Shedd as White County would take a 12-2 lead into the second quarter.

 

Shedd, would carry over her fast start into the second quarter as she would make it 14-2. Caleigh Hoffard, would snap a cold streak for the Nettes with a three to cut the lead to nine. After a series of fouls, Steinhauer, would split a pair of free throws as the Lady Warriors led it, 14-8. The Lady Warriors, would end the first half on a 4-0 run as they would lead the Nettes, 18-6 at the break.

 

Steinhauer, would get the second half going with a bucket to trim the lead to ten. A 5-0 run by the Lady Warriors, would stretch the lead out to 23-8. After a basket by Reagan Ludington, the Lady Warriors, would end the third quarter on a 5-0 run to make it 30-10 heading to the fourth.

 

Hoffard, would hit her second three of the game to begin the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 30-13. After a 4-0 run by the Lady Warriors, Ludington and Tania Rivera, would combine to go on a 5-0 run to make it 34-18. A late bucket by the Lady Warriors, would give us a final of 36-18.

The Nettes, will look to rebound as the #2 seed in the upcoming region tournament, is still well within their grasp. The Nettes, will head to Gainesville to take on the Johnson Lady Knights on Tuesday, February 10th. Tip off is set for 6 pm.

Nettes move to 4-1 in region play

Jasper, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes, were back in region play on Tuesday, January 13th as they welcomed the Johnson-Gainesville Lady Knights to the Dragons Den. The Nettes, were looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Fannin last Saturday and pick up some momentum heading into a big road game at GAC on Friday. The Nettes, were able to get everyone involved during this game as they would come away with a 69-17 win.

 

The Nettes, would start off fast in this one as Bree Jewell, Darbi Stanley, Skyler Lathem, and Ellison Steinhauer, would combine to go on a 17-0 run to open up the game. Taelor Carruth, would end the run with a put back lay up to get the Lady Knights on the board. Steinhauer and Tania Rivera, would combine to go on a 9-0 run to close out the first quarter as the Nettes led the Lady Knights, 28-2.

 

Emily Hernandez, would open up the second quarter scoring with a hook shot to make it 28-4. The Nettes, would then go on a 16-0 run powered behind Khloe Pruitt, Steinhauer, and Stanley. Carmen Castano, would end the run to make it 44-6. After trading buckets, Stanley and Steinhauer would end the first half on a 5-0 run. At the break, the Nettes led the Lady Knights, 51-8.

 

The second half would have shortened quarters. In the third quarter, the Nettes, would shutout the Lady Knights 8-0. Jewell and Caleigh Hoffard, would each hit a three. Lathem, would make her second layup of the game. Heading to the fourth quarter, the Nettes were ahead, 59-8.

 

Carruth, would start the scoring in the fourth quarter to make it 59-10. Aubrey Phelps, would get in on the scoring for the Nettes as she would hit a three to make it 62-10. Sophia Painter, would then split a pair of free throws to make it 63-10. After a three by Carruth, Quincy Flatt, would hit a three to make it 66-13. Flatt, would then split free throw attempts as the Nettes led it, 67-13.

After a basket by Arianna Flores, Elin Porio, would get a layup to go to make it 69-15. A final bucket by Carruth, would give us a final score of 69-17.

Nettes split season series with Lady Rebels

Jasper, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes, were back on the home floor on Saturday, January 10th as they took on the Fannin Lady Rebels in non-region play. These two teams met early on in the season back on November 18th, with the Nettes coming away with the narrow victory. The rematch, was also very tightly contested. The Lady Rebels, would hold off a late rally by the Nettes as they would hang on to pick up the win, 60-55.

 

Ellison Steinhauer, would get the scoring started as she would put the Nettes ahead by a bucket. After a bit of a back and forth, Darbi Stanley, would find Skyler Lathem inside for a layup to make it 4-0. Izzie Jabaley and Avi Ethington, would make back to back baskets for the Lady Rebels to tie things up. Another bucket by Steinhauer, would once again put the Nettes in front.

Ethington, would make a pair of free throws to tie it up at 6. Steinhauer, would complete an and one play to give the Nettes a 9-6 lead. After a three by Maggie Ledford tied the game, Steinhauer, off to a fast start, would put the Nettes ahead. A late three by Reese Lewis, would put the Lady Rebels up 12-11 heading to the second quarter.

 

A bucket by Ethington to start the second quarter, would put the Lady Rebels up by three. Stanley, would get into the score book with a three to tie the game at 14. A 5-0 run by Albany Cole and Ethington, would give the Lady Rebels a 19-14 lead. Steinhauer and Reagan Ludington, would respond with a 5-0 run of their own to tie things up at 19. The Lady Rebels, would answer that with a 9-0 run to take a 28-19 lead.

Lewis and Ethington would combine to go on that run to put Fannin in front. Ludington, would end the run with a basket to cut the lead to 7. Cole, would split a pair of free throws as the Lady Rebels would take a 29-21 lead into the break.

 

Lewis, would begin the second half with a three to put the Lady Rebels up 32-21. Back to back buckets by Stanley and Steinhauer, would cut the lead back to 7. Cole, Lewis, and Jabaley, would respond with a 6-0 run to make it 38-25. A basket by Steinhauer and an and-1 play by Ludington, would cut the lead to 8. A late basket by Toccoa Hampton, would put the Lady Rebels up 40-30 heading to the fourth.

 

Stanley, Steinhauer, and Lathem, would combine to go on a 7-0 run to start the fourth quarter to cut the Lady Rebels lead to 3. After a bit of a back and forth and technical fouls, the Lady Rebels found themselves up by 10 with just over a minute left. Steinhauer, would make a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 8. The Nettes, would then get the ball back and Bree Jewell would hit a three to cut the lead to 5.

Steinhauer, would make another pair of free throws to trim the lead to 3. The Lady Rebels, with the ball with a little over 20 seconds left, put up a shot that the Nettes would rebound. The Nettes, would set up a play for a potential game tying three, but it would fall short and the Lady Rebels would grab it. Jabayley, would hit a pair of free throws to help seal the win for Fannin, 60-55.

Nettes advance to 6-AAA Semifinals

Jasper, Ga — The girls side of the 6-AAA Region Tournament began on Tuesday, February 11th as teams were looking to officially punch their ticket to the State Tournament. The Pickens Dragonettes, the host team for the tournament, came into the tournament as the #1 seed. Their opponent, the Johnson Lady Knights, came into the tournament as the #8 seed. Earlier games saw GAC defeat Dawson, Chestatee defeat North Hall, and White County defeat Lumpkin. The Nettes, would get past the Lady Knights, 75-18.

The Nettes, would begin the game by going on a 16-0 run as all five starters Bella Martin, Reagan Ludington, Brylee Deering, Ellison Steinhauer, and Ellie Hollis all contributed to the run. A pair of free throws by Harbor Landers, would put an end to the run and make it 16-2. The Nettes, would then go on a 20-0 run as Martin, Tania Rivera, Steinhauer, and Bree Jewell would all score during the run.

A three by Elena Rhoads, would end that Nettes run and make it 36-5. A late three by Steinhauer, would give the Nettes a 39-5 lead heading to the second quarter.

A three by Ludington, would get the second quarter started to make it 42-5. After a layup by Landers, Jewell and Ludington, would go on a 6-0 run to make it 48-7. The Lady Knights, would then counter with a 5-0 run as Rhoads hit her second three of the game and Landers would follow with a layup to cut the lead to 48-12. The Nettes, would close out the first half on a 10-0 run as Ruby Flatt, Kylee Bozeman, Jewell, and Skyler Lathem would make it 58-12 at the break.

The second half would be shortened to 6 minute quarters. Landers, would begin the scoring in the third quarter with a bucket to make it 58-14. Flatt and Lathem, would then combine to go on a 7-0 run throughout the rest of the quarter as the Nettes, would take a 65-14 lead into the fourth.

Bozeman and Jewell, would begin the fourth quarter by going on a 5-0 run to make it 70-14. A pair of free throws by Taelor Carruth, would make it 70-16. Caleigh Hofford, would get into the score book with a layup to make it 72-16. Landers, would connect on another basket to make it 72-18. A late three pointer by Sophie Adams, would make it 75-18. The Nettes, would pick up the win, 75-18.

The winner, will go on to face the winner of White County and Chestatee on Saturday, February 15th. Tip off for the Nettes and Lady Spartans is set for 7 pm.
