Dominant second half sends Nettes to region semifinals

Norcross, Ga — On Monday, February 16th, the Pickens Dragons, battled back to move past the Chestatee War Eagles to advance to the semifinals on the boys side. The Dragonettes, looked to punch their ticket to the girls semifinals on Tuesday, February 17th as they took on the Dawson Lady Tigers. It looked like the makings of another close game between the two after the first half, but the Nettes would take over and outscore the Lady Tigers 39-11 in the second half to pick up the win 64-31.

 

The Lady Tigers, would jump out to an early lead to start the game as Ava Roberson and Lilly Abbott, would combine to go on a 5-0 run. Darbi Stanley and Abbott, would then trade baskets as Dawson led it, 7-2. Skyler Lathem, Tania Rivera, and Ellison Steinhauer, would then combine for a 5-0 run to tie the game at 7. The Lady Tigers, would counter that run with another combined 5-0 run by Roberson and Abbott to make it 12-7.

A three pointer and a pair of free throws by Reagan Ludington, would tie the game up at 12. A late bucket by Abbott, would give the Lady Tigers a 14-12 lead heading to the second quarter.

 

Back to back baskets by Steinhauer, would open up the second quarter as the Nettes took a 16-14 lead. A bucket by Roberson, would tie the game at 16. A big momentum shifter came after Stanley, would hit a three as she was being fouled. Stanley, would make the free throw to give the Nettes a 20-16 advantage. Abbott and Roberson, doing the heavy lifting for the Lady Tigers, would tie the game after back to back baskets.

A combined 5-0 run by Ludington and Rivera to close out the first half, would give the Nettes a 25-20 lead over the Lady Tigers heading into the break.

 

Steinhauer, the 6-AAA Girls Region Player of the Year and North Georgia commit, would absolutely take over for the Nettes in the third quarter. Steinhauer, would begin the second half by going on an 8-0 run to stretch the lead out to 33-20. A layup by Abbott, would end the run and make it 33-22. Steinhauer and Stanley, would then go on a combined 8-0 run to make it 41-22.

Abbott, and Steinhauer, would then trade free throw makes to end the third quarter as the Nettes would take a 43-24 lead into the fourth.

 

Rivera, Ludington, and Stanley, would start the fourth quarter by going on a combined 10-0 run to make it 53-24. Abbott, would end the run by completing an and-1 play to cut the lead to 53-27. After a pair of free throws by Steinahuer, Carleigh Hoffard, would get a layup to go to make it 57-27. A three by Abbott, would cut the lead to 57-30. Khloe Pruitt and Stanley, would combine to go on a 5-0 run to make it 62-30.

After Roberson split a pair of free throws, Ludington, would end the scoring by making a pair of free throws as the Nettes would come away with a 64-31 win.

With the win, the Nettes have advanced to the 6-AAA region semifinals where they will take on the White County Lady Warriors on Thursday, February 19th at Chestatee High School. These two teams split their regular season meetings. Tip off is set for 4 pm.

Nettes move to 4-1 in region play

Jasper, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes, were back in region play on Tuesday, January 13th as they welcomed the Johnson-Gainesville Lady Knights to the Dragons Den. The Nettes, were looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Fannin last Saturday and pick up some momentum heading into a big road game at GAC on Friday. The Nettes, were able to get everyone involved during this game as they would come away with a 69-17 win.

 

The Nettes, would start off fast in this one as Bree Jewell, Darbi Stanley, Skyler Lathem, and Ellison Steinhauer, would combine to go on a 17-0 run to open up the game. Taelor Carruth, would end the run with a put back lay up to get the Lady Knights on the board. Steinhauer and Tania Rivera, would combine to go on a 9-0 run to close out the first quarter as the Nettes led the Lady Knights, 28-2.

 

Emily Hernandez, would open up the second quarter scoring with a hook shot to make it 28-4. The Nettes, would then go on a 16-0 run powered behind Khloe Pruitt, Steinhauer, and Stanley. Carmen Castano, would end the run to make it 44-6. After trading buckets, Stanley and Steinhauer would end the first half on a 5-0 run. At the break, the Nettes led the Lady Knights, 51-8.

 

The second half would have shortened quarters. In the third quarter, the Nettes, would shutout the Lady Knights 8-0. Jewell and Caleigh Hoffard, would each hit a three. Lathem, would make her second layup of the game. Heading to the fourth quarter, the Nettes were ahead, 59-8.

 

Carruth, would start the scoring in the fourth quarter to make it 59-10. Aubrey Phelps, would get in on the scoring for the Nettes as she would hit a three to make it 62-10. Sophia Painter, would then split a pair of free throws to make it 63-10. After a three by Carruth, Quincy Flatt, would hit a three to make it 66-13. Flatt, would then split free throw attempts as the Nettes led it, 67-13.

After a basket by Arianna Flores, Elin Porio, would get a layup to go to make it 69-15. A final bucket by Carruth, would give us a final score of 69-17.

Nettes defeat Lady Lions in preseason scrimmage

Jasper, Ga — With the ’25-’26 basketball season set to tip off, the Pickens Dragonettes, welcomed the Lady Lions of Christian Heritage for a scrimmage on Tuesday, November 11th. The Lady Lions, finished the ’24-’25 season with a 20-8 record. The Nettes, finished the ’24-’25 season with a 27-3 record. The Nettes, would lead the game throughout and win the game, 63-54.

 

The first quarter, was a back and forth battle with both teams trading the lead. Ellison Steinhauer and Reagan Ludington led the way for the Nettes with 6 and 5 points respectively. Darbi Stanley, Khloe Pruitt, and Caleigh Hofford rounded out the scoring for the Nettes in the first quarter. Heading to the second quarter, the Nettes, led the Lady Lions, 18-17.

 

In the second quarter, the Nettes, were on it defensively which led to some nice transition offense. The Nettes, outscored the Lady Lions 22-6 in the second quarter. Stanley, led the scoring in the second quarter with 6 points. Bree Jewell and Steinhauer, had 5 points each. Tonia Rivera, and Hofford, had 3 points each. At the half, the Nettes led the Lady Lions, 40-23.

 

The third quarter, was much like the first quarter with both teams trading buckets. The Lady Lions, would just outscore the Nettes, 15-13 in the frame. Steinhauer, led the scoring with 7 points. Hofford and Stanley each contributed 3 points in the quarter. Heading to the fourth quarter, the Nettes led the Lady Lions, 53-38.

 

The Lady Lions, would outscore the Nettes, 16-10 in the fourth quarter. Skyler Lathem, would lead the Nettes in scoring with 4 points. Jewell, Elin Porio, and Stanley all had 2 points. The Nettes, were able to hang on and pick up a 63-54 win in the scrimmage.
