Nettes advance to AAA Sweet 16

Jasper, Ga — The AAA State Tournament for the Pickens Dragonettes, began on Wednesday, February 19th as they hosted the Howard Lady Huskies for a first round match up. The Nettes, came into the game as the #1 overall seed in the tournament. The Lady Huskies, came into the game as the #32 seed. After enduring a slow start shooting wise to begin the game, the Nettes, pulled away from the Lady Huskies to pick up a 68-22 win.
It took a little bit for the Nettes to get going in the first quarter, but when they did, they would go on an 8-0 run as Bella Martin and Brylee Deering would combine for the run. Kristen Hines, would get the Lady Huskies on the board just before the end of the first quarter as she would bank in a three. Heading to the second quarter, the Nettes led the Lady Huskies, 8-3.
Alaysia Sutton, would get the scoring started in the second quarter as she would cut the lead down to two after a three. After both teams traded baskets, the Nettes, would go on a 9-0 run as Ellison Steinhauer, and Reagan Ludington, would combine for the run to make it 23-10. A bucket by Sakaria Coleman, would put an end to the run and cut the lead down to 11.
The Nettes, would respond with a 10-0 run as Ellie Hollis, Martin, and Steinhauer all contributed to the run to make it 33-12. A late basket by Sutton, would close the first half with the Nettes leading the Lady Huskies, 33-14.
Hollis, would begin the second half with a three to make it 36-14. After a bucket by Hines, Martin and Ludington, would combine for a 5-0 run to make it 41-16. A layup by Coleman, would put an end to the run and make it 41-18. Bree Jewell, would then hit her first three of the night to stretch the lead out to 44-18. Steinhauer, would make a pair of free throws to make it 46-18.
After Amyah Moses split a pair of free throws, Steinhauer and Ludington, would close out the third quarter with a a 5-0 run to make it 51-19 heading to the fourth.
Steinhauer and Deering, would begin the fourth quarter by going on a 6-0 run to make it 57-19. A three by Coleman, would put an end to the run and cut the lead to 57-22. Jewell and Kylee Bozeman, would end the game on an 11-0 run as Jewell would hit back to back threes, and Bozeman, would make a jumper and a three to help seal a 68-22 win for the Nettes.

The Nettes, will turn their attention to Friday, February 21st as they host the Calhoun Lady Yellow Jackets in the Sweet 16. Calhoun, the #17 seed, defeated the #16 seed Oconee County on Tuesday to advance. Tip off is set for 7 pm.
Nettes advance to 6-AAA Semifinals

Jasper, Ga — The girls side of the 6-AAA Region Tournament began on Tuesday, February 11th as teams were looking to officially punch their ticket to the State Tournament. The Pickens Dragonettes, the host team for the tournament, came into the tournament as the #1 seed. Their opponent, the Johnson Lady Knights, came into the tournament as the #8 seed. Earlier games saw GAC defeat Dawson, Chestatee defeat North Hall, and White County defeat Lumpkin. The Nettes, would get past the Lady Knights, 75-18.
The Nettes, would begin the game by going on a 16-0 run as all five starters Bella Martin, Reagan Ludington, Brylee Deering, Ellison Steinhauer, and Ellie Hollis all contributed to the run. A pair of free throws by Harbor Landers, would put an end to the run and make it 16-2. The Nettes, would then go on a 20-0 run as Martin, Tania Rivera, Steinhauer, and Bree Jewell would all score during the run.
A three by Elena Rhoads, would end that Nettes run and make it 36-5. A late three by Steinhauer, would give the Nettes a 39-5 lead heading to the second quarter.
A three by Ludington, would get the second quarter started to make it 42-5. After a layup by Landers, Jewell and Ludington, would go on a 6-0 run to make it 48-7. The Lady Knights, would then counter with a 5-0 run as Rhoads hit her second three of the game and Landers would follow with a layup to cut the lead to 48-12. The Nettes, would close out the first half on a 10-0 run as Ruby Flatt, Kylee Bozeman, Jewell, and Skyler Lathem would make it 58-12 at the break.
The second half would be shortened to 6 minute quarters. Landers, would begin the scoring in the third quarter with a bucket to make it 58-14. Flatt and Lathem, would then combine to go on a 7-0 run throughout the rest of the quarter as the Nettes, would take a 65-14 lead into the fourth.
Bozeman and Jewell, would begin the fourth quarter by going on a 5-0 run to make it 70-14. A pair of free throws by Taelor Carruth, would make it 70-16. Caleigh Hofford, would get into the score book with a layup to make it 72-16. Landers, would connect on another basket to make it 72-18. A late three pointer by Sophie Adams, would make it 75-18. The Nettes, would pick up the win, 75-18.

The Nettes, will now turn their attention to Friday, February 14th as they will take on the GAC Lady Spartans in a 6-AAA Region Tournament Semifinal game. The winner, will go on to face the winner of White County and Chestatee on Saturday, February 15th. Tip off for the Nettes and Lady Spartans is set for 7 pm.
Nettes split with Lady Tigers to end regular season

Jasper, Ga — On Friday, February 7th, the Pickens Dragonettes, welcomed the Dawson Lady Tigers to the Dragons Den for the finale to the ’24-’25 regular season. Coming into the game, the Nettes, were 21-2 and 12-1 in 6-AAA play. The Lady Tigers, came into the game at 15-9 and 8-5 in 6-AAA play. The Nettes, were looking to even up the season series after the Lady Tigers took the first meeting on January 14th. Even up the series they did as the Nettes picked up the win, 67-34.
Eva Bishop, would give the Lady Tigers an early 2-0 lead after a jumper. Bella Martin, would respond by going on a 5-0 run to give the Nettes a 5-2 lead. Bishop, would end the run and cut the lead to one after a layup. Reagan Ludington and Ellison Steinhauer, would then make back to back buckets to give the Nettes a 9-4 lead. Maddie Siuta, would hit a three to cut the lead down to two.
After Ludington and Bishop traded baskets, Steinhauer, would close out the first quarter by going on a 5-0 run. Included in that run, was a running three pointer as the clock expired. Heading to the second quarter, the Nettes, led the Lasy Tigers, 16-9.
Steinhauer, would continue her run to begin the second quarter as she would score the first five points of the frame to stretch the Nettes lead out to 21-9. A three by Siuta, would end the run and cut the lead down to 21-12. Steinhauer and Tania Rivera, would then hit back to back threes to make it 27-12. The two teams would trade buckets for the remainder of the first half as the Nettes led the Lady Tigers, 33-19 at the break.
Martin and Steinhauer, would pen the second half with back to back baskets to make it 37-19. Rielyn Talley, would hit a three to cut the lead to 37-22. After Ellie Hollis made a pair of free throws, Bishop, would make a layup to cut the lead to 39-24. A 5-0 run by Ludington and Martin, would extend the lead to 44-24. After Bishop split a pair of free throws, Steinhauer and Hollis would end the quarter on a 7-0 run as the Nettes led the Lady Tigers, 51-25.
Addison Smith, got the fourth quarter going with a bucket to make it 51-27. Kylee Bozeman, would respond with a three to make it 54-27. After a bit of a back and forth, Steinhauer and Rivera, would combine for a 7-0 run to make it 63-31. A basket by Bishop, would put an end to the run and make it 63-33. Steinhauer, would then hit a three, and Skyler Lathem, would split a pair of free throws to make it 67-33.
Kadence Rhodes, would split a pair of late free throws as the Nettes, would pick up the win in the regular season finale, 67-34.

All of the games for the 6-AAA Region Tournament will be played at Pickens High School. Quarterfinal games for the girls side will begin on Tuesday, February 11th. The Nettes, will take on the Johnson-Gainesville Lady Knights at 8:30 pm.
5 score in double figures as Nettes sweep Lady Indians

Jasper, Ga — On Wednesday, January 22nd, the Pickens Dragonettes, welcomed the Lumpkin County Lady Indians to the Dragons Den for a 6-AAA match up. This game, was originally set for Tuesday, the 21st, but the latest round of winter weather forced it to be moved to Wednesday. The rest of the region hasn’t been able to play this week so far. Lumpkin, came into the game at 7-12 overall and 2-6 in region play. Pickens, came into the game at 16-2 overall and 7-1 in region play. A big fourth quarter and some nice contributions from the bench, helped the Nettes pick up an 87-55 win.
Ellison Steinhauer, would get things started in the first quarter with a short jumper to make it 2-0. A three by Alayna Lindley, would give the Lady Indians their first lead of the game. Ellie Hollis, would immediately respond with a three of her own to give the Nettes a 5-3 lead. Maddie Lee, would tie the game up at 5 with a layup. The Nettes, would then go on a 5-0 run as Steinhauer would make two free throws, and Bella Martin would hit a three to make it 10-5.
After a basket by Riley Dyer would end the run and cut the lead to 3, Steinhauer and Tania Rivera, would combine to go on an 8-0 run to make it 18-7. A three by Dyer would once again end the run and make it 18-10. After a bucket by Steinhauer, Dyer, Lindley, and Anna Kate Davis would combine to go on a 7-0 run to cut the lead down to 20-17. A basket by Rivera, would put an end to the run and stretch the lead back out to 5.
A three pointer by Emerson Reese, just before the buzzer, would cut the Nettes lead down to 22-20 as they would head to the second quarter.
Lee, would begin the second quarter with a layup to tie the game at 22. A three by Reagan Ludington, would give the Nettes a 3 points lead. After a layup by Lindley, Bree Jewell would hit a three to make it 28-24. Dyer, would get the layup to go through contact, and complete the and-1 to cut the lead to 28-27. A 5-0 run by Martin and Ludington, would make it 33-27.
Dyer, would then make another layup and Reese would split a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 33-30. Back to back buckets by Rivera and Caleigh Hoffard, would make it 37-30. Dyer and Lindley, would then combine for a 7-0 run to tie the game at 37. Martin and Rivera would hit back to back threes, and Ludington would score on a layup to make it 45-37 Nettes at the half.
Martin, would kick off the second half scoring with a three to make it 48-37. Dyer and Lee, would respond by going on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 6. Steinhauer, Ludington, and Martin, would then combine to go on a 7-0 run to stretch the lead out to 55-42. Lee, would end the run by splitting a pair of free throws. Reese, would follow with a three to make it 55-46.
After a three by Steinhauer, Lee, would score four straight points as she would connect on a layup, and then make a pair of free throws to make it 58-50. The Nettes, would close out the third quarter on a 5-0 run as Martin would hit another three, and Steinhauer would make a pair of free throws. Heading to the fourth, Pickens led Lumpkin, 63-50.
The fourth quarter, would belong to the Nettes. Specifically, Bree Jewell. The Nettes, would open up the fourth by going on a 17-0 run. 13 of those 17 points, were scored by Jewell as she hit four three pointers and split a pair of free throws. Steinhauer and Hollis would also contribute to the run. Lee, would put an end to the big run with a layup to make it 80-52.
Rivera, Hoffard, and Kylee Bozeman, would then combine to go on a 6-0 run to make it 86-52. Violet Greene, would end the run after she would make a layup through contact and hit the free throw to make it 86-55. A late free throw from Teagan Deering, would make it 87-55 as the Nettes would come away with the win.

The Nettes, are scheduled to take on the Lady Trojans of North Hall on Friday, January 24th. The Lady Trojans, haven’t been able to play their first scheduled game of the week against Johnson so far as it has been postponed twice already due to weather. We’ll have to wait and see if that has any effect on the game scheduled for Friday. Tip off is set for 6 pm.
Nettes stay undefeated in region play

Gainesville, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes, took to the road on Tuesday, January 7th as they took on the Johnson Lady Knights in 6-AAA action. Coming into the game, the Nettes, were 13-1 overall and leading the region with a 4-0 record. The Lady Knights, came into the game struggling as they were 0-11 on the season and 0-4 in region play. The younger players for the Nettes really shined in this one as Pickens took home a 70-15 win.
The Nettes, began the ball game by going on a 22-0 run. Reagan Ludington, Ellison Steinhauer, Brylee Deering, and Ellie Hollis all contributed to the run. Harbor Landers, would put an end to the run as she would get the Lady Knights on the board with a three. Heading to the second quarter, the Nettes led it, 22-3.
Emily Hernandez, would start the second quarter by making a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 22-5. The Nettes, would then go on a 7-0 run as Bella Martin would split a pair of free throws, and Deering, and Caleigh Hoffard would hit back to back three pointers to make it 29-5. A bucket by Karina Ordonez, would put an end to the run and make it 29-7.
After Landers would split a pair of free throws, the Nettes, would end the first half on a 13-0 run including a buzzer beating three pointer from Bree Jewell that hit every part of the basket before eventually going in. The Nettes, lead the Lady Knights, 42-8 at the break.
The Nettes, would begin the second half by continuing the run they were on to close out the first half as they scored another 8 straight points for a total run of 21-0 and stretch the lead out to 51-8. Hernandez, would end the run with a bucket. She would complete the and-1 play by hitting the free throw to make it 51-11. The Nettes, would end the third quarter with a 5-0 run as Tania Rivera and Jewell combined for the run. The Nettes led it, 56-11 after three.
The Nettes, started the shortened fourth quarter by going on a 14-0 run to make it 70-11. The Lady Knights, would close out the ball game on a 4-0 run as Ordonez would split a pair of free throws, and Landers would hit her second three of the game. The Nettes, would take this one, 70-15.
