Jasper Looks to 2013 Budget

News

During this week’s council meeting, Jasper City Clerk and Financial Director Tacie Williams announced that the city is currently working on its proposal for the 2013 budget. Williams and Mayor John Weaver have been meeting with department heads to ensure all departments are under budget for the 2013 year.

“Everybody is actually below budget for the most part, so that was good news,”

Williams said in the meeting.

Additionally, Williams will meet with the finance committee in the next two weeks to ensure all budgets are finalized for the 2013 year. After the finance committee meeting, she said she plans to present the proposed budget at the next city council meeting on December third. Council will also discuss the city’s new millage rate at the December meeting. The city will then hold a public hearing on the 2013 Budget on December 10th and then a special called meeting on December 13th to adopt the budget.

“Right now as we look at the 2013 Budget, we do not foresee changing our millage rate. It’s been 4.69 mills for the last few years, and it looks like we are going to be able to continue to operate on that,”

Williams stated.

The city plans to send out tax bills after the December 3rd meeting, Williams said.
