Yesterday, the Nettes varsity basketball team once again traveled up 515 to take part in day two of the Thanksgiving tournament being held at Gilmer High School. The Nettes were once again the opening game of the day as they were the designated away team as they took on the Lady Cougars of Copper Basin (TN). Pickens looked to bounce back after a tough buzzer beating defeat against Fannin on Saturday afternoon and bounce back did they ever.

The Nettes jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and wouldn’t look back as the offense and defense for the Nettes clicked in the opening quarter to bring the lead after one to 32-8. More of the same came in the 2nd quarter as the Nettes were hitting 3 pointers left and right to stretch the lead out to 56-15 at halftime. Pickens’ starters sat and watched their teammates for the bulk of the 2nd half as the lead after 3 quarters of play would be 69-20. The final score would be 73-25 setting up a big match up against the host team, the rival Lady Cats.

Leading the way for the Nettes were:

Haley Kalson: 13 points

Taylor Wigington: 13 points and 3 assists

Autumn Young: 11 points, 1 assist, and 2 rebounds

Makayla Payne: 11 points, 3 assists, and 1 rebound

Shelby Cook: 8 points and 3 rebounds

Leading the Nettes in assists would be Madison McClure with 4 and Kaitlin Redman led in rebounds with 5

The Nettes game this evening will be against the Lady Cats of Gilmer High School at GHS and scheduled start time is 6:00. A Pickens win will force a 3-way tie for first between Pickens, Gilmer, and Fannin.
