Nettes Lose Tough One To Heritage

Last Tuesday, the Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled to Ringgold to take on the Lady Generals of Heritage in 7AAAA region action. Pickens came into the game seeking it’s third straight win, a fifth win out of it’s last six games, and a season sweep of the Lady Generals.The first quarter started very much as evenly as it could. The Nettes held the lead after the opening quarter 13-12 over Heritage. The Lady Generals were able to get their offense going in the second quarter as they outscored Pickens 17-11 to take the lead at the half, 29-24.

Coming out of the locker room for the second half, the third quarter was almost identical to the first quarter as Heritage outscored the Nettes 14-13 to take a 43-37 lead going to the final quarter. Pickens tried several times to make a comeback, but the Lady Generals were able to stop every attempt and pull away as they outscored the Nettes 16-11 to seal the win, 59-48. The Nettes are now 10-11 on the season and 6-4 in the region.

Leading the way for Pickens Tuesday would be:

Mackenzie Hampton: 9 points, 1 assist, and 3 rebounds

Haley Kalson: 9 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals

Makayla Payne: 9 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal

Taylor Wigington: 9 points, 2 assists, and 1 rebound

Ashley Nelson: 5 points, 1 assist, and 1 steal

Kaitlin Redman finished with 4 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds, and a steal and Autumn Young finished with 3 points, 1 assist, and a steal

Pickens now will focus on their game with their rival up north, the Gilmer Lady Cats tomorrow night in Ellijay. The Lady Cats are tied at the top of the region standings with Northwest Whitfield at 9-1 while the Nettes are in third by themselves at 6-4. The first two games have been close so far so look for another close game tomorrow night. Tip off scheduled for 7 pm.
